I record in SFP mode and do my mixing in xtc mode.
both methods has advantages/disadvantages and i wish i had two monitors so i could give the sfp mode a fair try but in the end the very idea of using sharc powered fx in logic really appeals to me.
PLUS, i don't know if it's me but everything sounds better in xtc mode...
xtc mode is surely not perfect but it's a great idea and sure hope cw makes that final effort to make it flawless.

we win! hahaha. our own forum. for real. John continues to rock. Thanks!
I'm very into XTC mode, but this is due largely to my love affair with SX. I am coupling my 16SHARCs with a UAD card since I am so bought into this way of working.
Delay compensation will rule. Very excited.
btw-- if you haven't already, buzz over to http://www.d-media.dk/xtc_poll.htm and voice your opinion!

didn't really know where to put this post but this seemed like the right place.
first, SPIRIT:
when working in sfp mode i suppose you're using your daw as a "taperecorder/midi sequencer" and your sfp as your mixing console; mixing, adding effects and so on.
now the whole point in using xtc mode is to have it all in one place, without having to switch windows: "play, switch to sfp add a little more reverb, switch, fast forward, switch, not enough compressor, switch, record an extra vocal, switch, crap have to do it again, switch..." etc.
in xtc mode it's all there, in your daw. just insert dx pluggs, vst pluggs or xtc pluggs into your sx/logic mixer and that's all there is to it.
it's actually funny since from the start i found sfp mode to be, imho, far more unstable and messy than the xtc mode but obviously many if not most people here find it the other way around...
i'm getting my pulsar 2 card next week and i'm of course very eager to try the stm 24/48.
so my question is: is there anything aside from setting priorities in xp i can do to run sfp mode without causing logic to stop as soon as i touch a fader etc?
i'd be VERY grateful for any hints and tips on this matter and of course i'll do whatever i can to help you out in "xtc-ville".
have a nice weekend!

I only recently switched over to try it, and I must say it is how I like to work.
Yes, I would love to be able to see the routing widnow... and I am SURE it is possible for CW to enable the routing window - just make it available like the DSP load window (idea!)
I have a 6 months old son, and I odnt have any more time to tweak the routing forever... I like to open 1 file and get a total recall of my project.. Its all there.
As others said, its not perfect, but it is a good direction to take for CW, and they should take all of our input to make it better in the future.
Take care!

YES! Mano - that's exactly what we need! Primarily XTC and the possibility to open the routing window of SFP to use the synths an samplers (maybe even the mixers).
SFP needs to be BELOW the DAW not besides! And as I already mentioned in other posts: XTC sounds way better than SFP in GUI-mode (meanwhile I'm not the only one)!

Hi Steve-O
How can it sound better?
This i don't beleive...
Maybe you're sequencer program modify sound to make you think it sound better? I don't know... But i tried to ear this difference, but i didn't heard it...
Maybe i need explanation on 'what' to listen to find this difference, so far, i found none.
Again, how can it sound better? It is the same sound source, the same algorythms, the same plugs...

I dont think it sounds better, but it is a hell of a lot easier to grasp which channels are enabled, muted, etc.. So maybe some people have all of their analog ins enabled without any Gates, and with some gain cranked up (which should generate some noise)? Not sure... Sounds good in both modes to me

Hi!
first of all, I'm a recent user of a DAW and without previous studio work experience, so everything I may say is possible to be a fool mistake but as I believe there are more non Prof users as me whose are still learning, so... about XTC:
few days ago I hardly try to get it full working, and after placing every Plugs DLL's in the right place and trying to edit XTCproject as is required for each one needs the thing works fine; after that with SX+XTC several things run smoothly and faster making;
I also find that SFP synths sound better (I can't imagine why), but only these, (nothing about noise Marcuspocus and Mano1) every other things sound the same, aproaching to normal mode, the advantage is less windows and mixer channels routing shifts;
There's benefit in the DSP load too, however it depends on the XTC project done before. (the more asio channels and connections=the more monitoring possibillities=the more DSP use; the Asio Direct Mon. also works fine and direct mode with green led too(I just can't get the blue mode work, but not bother for now). To record SFP synts I must do real time but several simultaneous channels possible, so...
Now, the most important is to read several previous relevant threads about, here in the forum, THEY WERE PRECIOUS TO ME and, find a good way to use both methods for different objectives and/or results.
thanks all of you, Jose Abreu

Yep.
You can count me in as an XTC enthusiast. I only have the Powersampler card (for now) so using XTC in SX means I free up lots of processor power on the card. The latency fix for SX will be superb. Xtc has increased my musical output tremendously. I love having everything in one place. Hoorah for XTC

I understand that - same software (...) same hardware but as I stated elsewhere the sound IS different. I posted my experience with SFP-GUI slowing down the whole system elsewhere in this forum. This does not make any sense because this decreases your working efficiency tremendously. It's ridiculous to slow down the complete working process with a software that should give you access to DSP <POWER>. I observed a lot of dropouts and 'micro'-dropouts when using the GUI: this maybe the cause for the XTC-mode sounding WAY better (smoother). The cause I touched XTC was the 100% frustration with the GUI slowing down the creative process. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT THE CASE WITH XTC. The solution would surely be to improve the graphics of the SFP-GUI. The current status: doesn't make sense at all!
