i'm a new luna II user and asked a few questions before.
now i got all the parts together to (hopefully) record my own songs.
but i want to ask all the users how i install and configure windows98se and cubase 5vst correctly, to have the optimal system.
Here my parts:
pIII 850Mhz
abit BE6 (100mhz)
512 MB Ram
Promise udma 100 controller
IBM dtla 307030
fast WD harddrive (udma66)
lunaII
Software:
Windows98se
Cubase5 VST
Gigasampler

First, this probably belongs in the Troubleshooting area.
On the ABIT BE6, be sure you <b>avoid the highpoint</b> controller. I actually don't suggest this board for anyone, if at all possible, since that controller is nothing but trouble causing blue screens, blackscreens, and random lockups. So, stick with your Promise controller card.
Be sure your Luna II is <b>not sharing</b> an IRQ with anything else. To get a list of used IRQs quickly: Winkey+Pause > Device Manager > Properties. To change an IRQ, sometimes you can do this within windows (select the conflicting device and try to change the IRQ) but most times you will have to change the IRQ in the BIOS. Look in your motherboard manual, as some PCI slots are forced to share with other resources, to decide which slot is best for Luna.
Then <a href=http://planetz.ghostwheel.com/phpBB/vie ... 6>optimize your machine for audio a bit</a>, and install the latest versions of your sequencer and the Luna software, drivers. You might then check out <a href=http://planetz.ghostwheel.com/phpBB/vie ... rum=1>this thread</a>, which lists the important "install the drivers for Luna before installing the Luna software" hint, amonst other stuff...

I use BE6-II (with the Highpoint 366 controller) with Pulsar I and Pulsar II SRB.
I do not have (serious) problems as long as I do not connect an UDMA100 drive directly to the board. If I do, I get a lockup within 2-3 minutes and subsequently very mad
The BE6-II Bios will let you assign IRQ's ot boards easily, and I guess that goes for BE6 as well.
You may also want to disable USB (if you don't use it, that is!) now you're at it, this may give a slight increase in performance. Did for me anyway. This is probably not relevant for newer boards (815E-chipset) ?
The normal procedure for installation would probably be to install W98 without Luna installed, install drivers for your UDMA100 controller card, install Luna and then Cubase, any other opinion on this ?
On BE6-II, the slots that work best for me is slot 2 and 4 (slot 1 is nearest to the AGP-slot), so again, that may also work on BE6.

, I have to state the the BE6-II is actually running Highpoint 366 (UDMA66).
The BE6-II v 2.0, on the other hand, is running Highpoint 370 (UDMA100).

Looking at the big picture, the BE6 seems pretty similar to the BE6-II, except for 2 ISA-slots as opposed to 1 on BE6-II.
What scares me a little bit in relation to the original post from singalong, is that it seems that it will only support celerons up to 700 MHz, even with the latest BIOS
