So is ModIII worth the effort (and money) ?

Anything about the Scope modular synths

I like fiddling wih the Modular, but for E99 the versionIII (really 2.5) update just doesn't look too exciting. I get the feeling the take-up rate has been very slim.

I'm curious about the modulation synthesis oscillator and the modulated delay, but many of the other modules are, well . . . 8 switch modules, 4 adders, 12 Eqs . . .

Can anyone tell me whether the XY controllers are adjustable via the centre "dot" with a mouse, or do you have to slide the x and y sliders ?

Haven't heard anything much made with the ModIII either except snippets on the Z from ModIII devices. Good links anyone ?

Edit: And can you just load the 3.1c "update" to activate the modules ?

Hi Spirit,
thank you for this topic, so I can clear some things from my desk.

Once the modIII came out, I said that this is a mod 2.5, the modIII hasn´t got the improvements I was looking for, only some modules more and maybe a faster GUI.
I build my first devices and tried the new modules like x/y controllers.

To sum up, It is really a 2.5 update for me, I can say that, because I knew the NI-Reaktor and I miss many things in MODIII, but I get in love with the MODIII, I used the x/y controllers 4 times for the drum sequencer "DRUMIX", in each of the 16 corners you have a drum sound, you can move the dot in the x/y window around with your mouse, now you can mix 4x4 drumsounds together, in the middle you can hear a fusion of all 4 drumsounds in the corner, you will hear only the BD or Snare etc.

Such adventures and results makes the MODIII worth his money. I would buy it again, because we don´t know when CW will release modIV. If I had construct and programed the new modules in the MODIII, I want more than 99€.

Give it a try.
If you don´t like it you can sell it to me and I will call out a competion here at Planet Z with the modIII as the 1st price.

Thanks Chris. I know you are one of the Modular Kings. ModIII didn't deliver what I was looking for either (eg better sequencer modules & GUI). It does tempt but there's a lot of toys out there in the E100 range...

Have you entered one of your patches in the CW ModIII competition ?

Hi Spirit ... my opinion about Mod III is that it worth the money... With Pulsar I only use modulars (2/3) for sound source and i keep on finding never heard sounds all the time. Check the modulation delay. It can be used polyphonic so put one after an oscillator and prior the filters.. The poly filters... use two of them in parralel in a patch and u will be amazed...

Just got it and cycling through some of the preset devices. Nice  Much better than I thought it would be. The granugator and polyfilter look especially tasty. Time to start building !

Thanks for the comments.

I think the best part about the ModIII is the PolyFilter. It is SO good! It rivals my MoogerFooger LP filter. I practically consider the PolyFilter worth the $99 right there, and everything else in thrown in for free.

So you can't go wrong with that....
