I am using windows XP and I can't see my Akai format Disks. I understand I may have the wrong ASPI layer installed but don't know what i can do to fix it.

windows can't read akai format.
You'll see them in the file bowser window of Pulsar environement with the proper filter settings (samples and programs)

it's strange that suddenly, also my win98 system with SFP 3.1c does not read anymore akai partitions...(even if the filters are OK)
my other partition with win98 and Pulsar 3.0 reads them without problem...
any suggestion??!

there are 3 libs akai**.dll in the .bin folder of Pulsar app in version 3.
Maybe the SFP update missed to installed the akai stuff ?
Something similiar should be in SFP too (wich I still haven't installed )
I'd simply copy the 3 files from the running system and restart Pulsar. I know this is not the right way, so try at your own risk

On my mac I have both old Pulsar 3 and SFP 3.1c installed.
Both have one 'Akai.dll' thing in the location you mention.
In SFP I didn't work with STS3000, but in old Pulsar 3 it worked with Akai cd.

BTW Astro, you're on mac isn't it? Or was it you who changed lately?
Anyway, I have SFP installed two month ago, and it's mutch better than old 3.0.
One example: you prob hate the CW menu line on top of your screen? Has gone now!
If you don't have the SFP files already, you could send CW an email (wait some days, they do answer these days), you'll get a nice original SFP install cd, including the manual, by normal post. I did

The akai.dll thing is certainly different on Mac, so it might use only one file. You may check the extensions folder inside system folder, for something like akaidk.lib.

tnx for the CD hint, Hubird.
If the shop where I bought the Pulsar would still be in business, I'd get it together with a coffee, a little smalltalk and some offensive jokes

But I have downloaded SFP months ago, just was fiddeling with other stuff and haven't found the time yet. But I want the ModIII update and Minimax, so it won't take long...

Actually I run Pulsar under Win98SE on Intel 815 with Celeron 1G. Pretty small system, both tech figures and size.
But I'm doing most things on the job with Mac and I've been in business with Apple since 85. That's why I frequently rant about their current 'philosophy' - they keep telling a lot of bs opposed to their enthusiasm of the earlier years.

cheers, Tom

ps: hope your ankle recovers well

This is a wacky sollution. I took the old Akai*.* files and put them in the new SFP bin folder. Then I started SFP and got about 5 error messages and thought "OH NO!" but then I installed SFP again and now everything is fine and I can see the Akai partitions.
