Pulsar software stops VST 5 audio output

If I switch from a song playing in Cubase VST 5 back to the Pulsar software (BigMixer) e.g. to adjust EQ's or to check the levels all audio output stops immediately. If I switch back to VST everything's fine again. Which is the right pulsar configuration. (or is it a Cubase-problem?)

In cubase (audio options I think) you need to activate Play audio in background

i mean, why should i want to have cubase stop playing, if i just do some editing in another software...? (esp. if that software influences the whole mix)

cubase is some kind of strange to me...
