Has anyone ever tried an HDMI switch with an Xite-1?
I currently have mine hooked up to my (old)laptop but i was thinking of running it to another desktop just for shits and giggles.
HDMI switch
Re: HDMI switch
i don't know, but since the XITE's connection is not HDMI, a switch might make problems or cause damage.
it's likely not to work, since the XITE is not hot-swappable. the XITE must be in communication with the computer's main board from boot to shut-down.

Re: HDMI switch
Wasn't intending to hot swap but yeah prob not worth the trouble or risk. I mean how hard is it just to unplug it and insert a different cable? haha
What about length? Any problems with say 20-25' ?

Re: HDMI switch
Reminder that a switch adds latency to the connection.
Re: HDMI switch
Ah, bad idea then.
Re: HDMI switch
no problem with the length.
Re: HDMI switch
Great!
Re: HDMI switch
I must always switch on Xite before I start the PC, otherwise the connection is not made (Xite not found) and I would need to reboot PC for it to see the Xite. It may not be the fault of HDMI but I suppose an HDMI switch might induce the same type of issue (eg. connection not found).
Other possible issues could be "copy protection violation - don't mess with copy protection" message, which happens to me quite often due to equipment switched on and off (causing electrical/static peaks). The latter might more problematic as I often have to unplug the Xite to discharge whatever needs to be discharged (electrically speaking, ie, it may need between 5 minutes to a few hours). This may or may not happen (highly dependent on each one electrical netwok/plugs etc - in some flats I rented it was ok, in others it is less good) (and not a backup UPS does not change anything, that's where all my stuff is connected).
Someone should try though...

Re: HDMI switch
Not sure, what really runs over that HDMI cable. It might be PCIe.
Switching Xite on after PC has booted, is hard to handle. I managed it some times by forcing Win7 to rescan the PCI-bus for new devices, but for 2 years I failed to reproduce. Copyright errors only occur when switching off Xite while scope is running.
If I don't mess with Xite or PC, scope runs very stable, with a 6m HDMI cable. 12hours are no problem.
Some considerations about cabling:
HDMI might connect shield on both sides. The PC is grounded by its powersupply, while Xite is floating. If there is an other device connected to Xite which provides some ground (e.g. 2nd PC), a groundloop is created, which is sensitive to magnetic pulses, like 12V lights.
Using a USV might cause problems if devices are switched on, while others are already running. Modern switching powersupplies have high "inrush current", which creates a short blackout on the output of the USV. If the running powersupplies don't have enough buffer capacity, their devices will get a powercycle, due to voltage drop.

Re: HDMI switch
yes, it's PCIe across the HDMI cable.
