I just don't get it anymore. I just bought a new computer, Pentium IV 2.0 GHZ, ASUS P4B-533, 512 MB DDR-RAM, Two 40 GB 7200 RPM Hardisks (One for OS and one for recording).I use Logic 5.13 and a Pulsar I card with SFP3.1 with 13ms Ulli, and windows 98 SE not tweaked or anything. AND I STILL HAVE CRACKLES WHEN I RECORD A VST INSTRUMENT. I had these problems also with my Pentium II 300, That's Why i Bought my new computer. Please give me a Solution. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSE, I just whant to make music and not spend money. THANX

I can understand your feelings mate!
I had exactly the same problem as you. You can read about it in my post at "Tips&Tricks":"Optimize your Windows 2000/Xp......"
My solution was to have a totally clean WinXP partition without Games, Office, Internet, anything that dont have to do with making music.
That helped me. The crackles dissapeard.

Ok, But my SYSTEM Is clean like a blue sky (Not the windows 98 sky, this one got clouds), I don't run office, games, internet, it's fully dedicated Music System.

be patient though.. atleast from what I know, your system shouldn't have any problems. So the workaround is probably just around the corner.

By the way, things are much better for me in XP. But that's probably because I switched to PIV-2ghz 512mbRAM with asus P4T-E together with XP. See, we got very similar specs. Just that my XP disk is loaded with crappy apps and whatnots, so you should be better off than me.

Thanx for the reply, I think i will do a new install with XP, friends of me say it's more stable then 98 Se, and that the PIV CPU's really get to there benefit with XP.

windows 98 SE not tweaked or anything

Be sure you visit the larger Win98 and WinXP optimization threads here in the Tips & Tricks area...

I'll tell you right now, without chipset drivers, you WILL GET crackles under Win98SE. You MUST install the chipset drivers under a really old OS like Win98, because your motherboard didn't exist when it was written like, 4 years ago.
