This is a puzzling one, and I wanted to describe it in case anyone has experienced it:

Just setting up a new HDD with WinXP (NTFS format), latest SFP, and Cubase SX. Using the 32 bit ASIO2 Source/Dest and trying to play back a project in Cubase, my Cubase master fader pegs solid, but the sound is just fine. Also, just enabling a master effect (without playback) causes the master fader to peg solid.

Both 16 and 24 bit ASIO2 Source/Dest work just fine, and it seems to only be the 32 bit that's causing some kind of strangeness.

Could there be some configuration issue I'm missing in either SFP, Cubase, or WinXP? Everything is a fresh install, and I'm opening up a project meant for 32 bit/44.1kHz. Again, the sound is just fine, but the faders are acting like there's some kind of feedback going on. But my only routing in SFP is ASIO2 modules, mixer, analog I/O.

I'm hopefully doing something lame. Any ideas? Thanks.

Also wanted to add that my Cubase SX install includes the latest update from Steinberg. I might try reinstalling SX without the latest update in case there's some bug in it. I'll post what I find.

Cubase SX v1.02 (latest update) was what I was using when I saw the aforementioned problem. I uninstalled, then reinstalled without doing the update (so at v1.01). Now the master fader meters no longer peg when operating at 32 bit with ASIO2 drivers.

Just to double-check myself, I updated again to Cubase v1.02. The problem returned with the master fader. I uninstalled and reinstalled to get back to v1.01, and the problem's no longer there.

I'm gonna report this to Steinberg. I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this.

It only happens with the float drivers, not the straight 32bit ones, right ?
Can anyone hear, see or measure the difference between using float or interger ?

The ASIO2-FLT, ASIO2-32, and ASIO2-16 were the ones I tried. The error only occurred with the ASIO2-FLT module (with Cubase v1.02).

Can Cubase SX perform 32-bit integer? All I see is 32-bit float.

Cubase "works fine" with the non-float drivers, I'm just not sure about the conversion to integer, hence the question...
