AcidPro4 announced with ASIO and MIDI
As of V3 SoFO removed midi sync (Acid as slave) out of the programme. They told me it was because the programme was trying to do too much. I'd read several posts of people complaining about drift, so I can understand.
I'm under the impression that, unless Acid is the master, you can only get it to freewheel from a specified smpte number or something like that. No real locked slave sync.

AcidPro4 is now out. Upgrade for US$99.

I've been playing with the demo for a day and a half now and here are my ...
Loop cloning is a new feature of the beatmapper. It is used to create new loops(on a new track) from a previous loop rearranger in the beatmapper. As noted in the SonicFoundry WebCast, it is also very usefull in conjunction with the new alternate time signature feature. Think rearranging this cool drum loop you have to fit your new 7/4 song you're working on! Nice!
ASIO seems to work without a glitch. When you choose to mix in 5.1, you can easily route to the ASIO channels of your choice. Note that it is not a 'per track' routing but 5.1 routing. IE: Rear-Left to ASIO channel 7, Center to ASIO channel 3...
FX automation: This new feature lets you draw FX parameters automation like you previously could with pan and volume. The only problem is that so far, the only plug-ins that support this are those from Sonic Foundry.
MIDI implementation is getting very interesting but is still lacking. New piano roll, event editor and Yamaha OPT support but no capability to draw MIDI controler curves.
There's also a lot of minor fixes, improvements and optimisations...
Is this a buy now thing? I've not decided yet. I like ACID because it lets me work much faster on arrangements or remixes than other software. With the new MIDI implementation, it is even getting to the point where it could be a viable composition tool. My only problem(and the kind of features I was looking the most for) is that with limited effect automation and without the possibility to graphically edit the MIDI controler curves(to automate SFP and other effects by MIDI), Acid's capability to create a finished product from beginning to end is somewhat limited. Note that recording MIDI controler events in Acid 4 is entirely possible. Just make sure you don't make a mistake because editing your automation event by event is going to take a long time.
My conclusions is that it's a great upgrade but for me, Acid 3 already does what I need it to do and the new version doesn't have the specific features I was looking for in a truly usable form.
FYI: Sonic Foundry's Acid 4 WebCasts are <a href="http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/Ne ... 3">here</a>.
