Digital Audio Soft have a nice bundle FM synth bundle.
http://scope.zone/index.php?id=1360&lg= ... d_2437=169
Also ther was an old freebie 4 OP fm device that did some good DX 7 type sounds. But can't remember the name at the moment. Will try to check when I am in studio

The old freebie is called FM4, it is to be found on this site, but there's a problem with the old links atm.
There is also CWM's free 6OP fm synth:

Good call Petal, forgot about that one, so I hope Roy will forgive me.
Certainly worth trying this one first Arcadios. Here's the link to the planetz thread relating to DxCwm

If you are willing to look away from scope alternatives, you should try the free Dexed VSTi.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Check this out - for the DAS F07
http://www.hitfoundry.com/issue_12/f07_mast.htm
It gives you some of the main DX presets translated to F07 - and algorithm mapping.

Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
The best is the tx802, but this is an original! Scope can do with DAS a good job, but to less Sound presets!!!
Can anyone program a converter for the presets?

The stock synth Poison is nice and can make some interesting sounds. Has its own character for sure.

Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
actually POISON is close to the character, which is an old synth of synth & Sample pack of pci cards.... but I still miss some of the glossy character....
Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
To be honest... the closest thing is FM7 NI VST.
I am not an expert but I read somwere that DX7 is not an analog synth.
Perhaps the emulation as well is also in different direction than the emulation of an analog monster...

The DX7 is not an analogue synth.
The DxCwm is able to produce the DX7 EP glossy sounds that you are after, but you will have to program them your self, since it doesn't come with any EP presets

Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
There are some good fm synthesis articles and tutorials around. For example these Sound On Sound articles might be of help,
https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... modulation
https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... modulation
They get pretty involved though, but there are plenty of other sites with good fm synthesis info. Also check YouTube.
Might do a bit more reading up on it myself
Cheers

OK - I tried to recreate one of the old DX7 EP sounds from my FS1R on the DxCwm. I didn't get all the way, but I believe the results shows that you can get there with the DxCwm.
EP4 is the end result of the experiment
I recommend Hexa Chorus on the sound

Sorry - you were right. It was empty. Try again

Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
If you grew up with a DX7ii like I did, you know that all the successors did not have the same soul like the originals from yamaha. This is not only the Software running on your modern PC, it is the Hardware Audio IO section with it's specific Bitrate. I have a collection of originals and Tx81z tx802 etc. These old machines killing all the Software Emulation. And there is scope eating up your DSPs for breakfast for each voice you add. DAS is the best for me but NO presets or converter!
There is arturias dx! It is a most beautiful dx emulation I can reccomend, at the moment the best of all software stuff I ever heard!

Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
Petal, I am impressed. Yes. Actually it is the 1st time I listen to a scope module with such a glossy touch.+ it has the solid feeling of the DSP hardware.petal wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 2:26 pm OK - I tried to recreate one of the old DX7 EP sounds from my FS1R on the DxCwm. I added a Compressor and a Delay on STM channel.. and the sound is very wide and rich..
Thank you!
I guess If I need I warm pad simultaneously on the background perhaps it could be combined with a second synth...
Now about the DxCwm, unfortunately it is very DSP hungry.... and even if I have 20 dsps from 14+6 cards I cannot raise the polyphony to mare than 5 in my project( I could dedicate an empty project though for higher polyphony)... Maybe for such a huge sound It would be really better to have the XITE.
I wonder if DAS modules are better in DSP management...
Re: Which scope synth is the closest to Yamaha DX7?
Hi Arcadios, I'm happy to hear that you could use the result. I learned a lot recreating the sound, even though it's not an exact replica! I do believe that the glossyness is part of the FM deal though. That is how it sounds.
The DxCwm doesn't seem too DSP-hungry on my XITE here, but it might be different on the old cards and their not as powerful DSP's.
Anyways, each voice is running 6 oscilators of the same kind, that Scope uses for analogue style synthesis, so I guess it makes sense if the DxCwm is DSP-hungry.
I don't have the DAS-modules myself, so I don't know if they are less DSP-hungry.
