Hi!
I recently got an ADAT interface for my Yamaha 03d and I'm trying to set things up both on the mixer and in the Pulsar environment. This is what I've done in Pulsar so far:
http://jacob.fade.org/pulsarSCREENSHOT1.jpg
Do you see any severe errors in that screenshot?
More importantly though. How do I setup the Yamaha 03d under the 'DIO' menu? I'm a 03d newbie so I'm not too familiar with it's menus. At the moment all the YGDAI slots are "X:ed" :/
What do I have to do to get things working. Anyone have a 03d and use it with Pulsar ADAT, please send me your project(s) or give me advice on how to set up the 03d. I'm lost here, thanks so much!
Pulsar II to a Yamaha 03d via ADAT
Looks fine, only you have your Aux Sends going back out through the ADAT... not a problem if you know already how the Aux works on the BugMixer.
I have the same setup, and I use the 03D as master, and Pulsar as slave.
I suggest unplugging any SPDIF cables while we try to get the ADAT to work first.
Make sure you have the levels for the Digital Channels on the 03D turned up (17-24). In the 03D DIO setup page, select Clock Source Internal, and put everything to 24 bits, 44.1khz (this is what I work with, since I'm going for CDs as the final output).
Double check that you have 2 AdAT cables going to Pulsar (and FIRMLY inserted at both ends), and remember that Pulsar has 2 ADAT in, and 2 ADAT out -- I believe I'm using the Top ADAT Connectors on the Pulsar board, and they seem to correspond to the first 8 digital Pulsar ADAT channels.
Once 03D is Master, you might have to toggle between "Master" back to "Slave" on Pulsar for it to resync properly. Make sure you have the volume down on the mixer any time you do anything with the digital sync on either side, or you might get loud digital noise.
What sounds are you sending through the ADAT?
I suggest you just play an MP3 file through WinAmp (or similiar) and route it directly to the ADAT output (1&2), and get the settings close to as I describe until you hear youro MP3 without clicks and pops.

Hey thanks for all the advice, it really helped! Finally I'm on the way. I'm now getting sound from both ASIO and Wave source through the ADATs.
I don't seem to be getting anything TO pulsar from the 03d. Ie, the faders in the bigmixer do not move when I play on my external synths/use the microhphone. Could you send me the project YOU use? Should work seeing that we have the same setup? My e-mail is j@fade.org.
How do I give the ASIO channels separate faders in the bigmixer? For some reason all wave channels in Logic are played on the same channel on the bigmixer eventhough I have 16 ASIO24 in and out.
How do I assign separate channels on the 03d to separate outputs from the 03d Adat. Ie. If I want channels 5 and 6 (stero pair) on the 03d to go out via ADAT output 3-4, how do I setup that?
I'm really green working with ADAT/digital mixing. Have any other pointers or hints that might help?
Thanks so much for helping out!!

Perfect, ready for the next round of advices I see.
Okay, on the 03D in the DIO menus, find the D.out Setup. Navigate down to the bottom. I have mine setup as YGDAI OUT CH 1,2,3,4, each set to AUX 1, AUX2, AUX3, and AUX4. I also have YGDAI OUT CH 5,6,7,8 on BUS1, BUS2, BUS3, BUS4.
Now, you can use the "AUX" pages (with dedicated buttons) on the 03D to send anything coming through the mixer out the ADAT outs and into Pulsar. To send stuff out 5-8, you simply select the "PanRouting" button on the 03D, and navigate to the channel you'd like to send out the Bus, press Enter on the 03D, and it should go out that Bus!
BUSs don't have faders, they simply send out the signal pre or post fader for that channel.
AUXs have volume control on the various AUX pages, (mostly) independant of the channel's volume fader.
I'm not sure this is the "best" way of doing it, but it works great! It depends also on what sort of outboard gear you're using.
Tip for 03D Owners: I noticed the (1/4" Analog) AUX and BUS outputs in the back work, even when you're also sending the info through the DigiIO! So, I can AUX send stuff to the Kurzweil's or analog filter's input, but also have the signal flowing through Pulsar...
I think this thread should help people also with the Yamaha 01V Digital Mixers as well (very similiar setup), and also help people understand how Pulsar can really open up your studio to super-ultra-mega flexible routing. I know of NOTHING ELSE that does this much stuff for the price. It's your swiss army knife, man.

Hi!
I own a O1V with ADAT interface, and I'm wondering if, using cubase as sequencer, it's correct to:
set the Pulsar as slave, Asio sources and pulsinths go to Bigmixer, Bigmixer outs/aux go to adat dest (so I can also route signals to O1 effects), MEANWHILE adat source goes to ASIO dest (this should allow me to make some bounces or to record the final mix in a stereo track in cubase)
Note: Asio monitoring in cubase disabled.
Do you see any problem? (Loop, quality loss, etc..)

Again thanks! Almost there now

The AUX chans are working. I have three synths and a microphone attached to the 03d. So I'm sending the first output of each synth (Waldorf Q, Roland XV-5080 and Yamaha CS6x) + the Microphone thru one AUX send each, and it working, Pulsar is recieving.
Now I would like to use the BUS:es on the 03d for sending out the alternative outputs on the synths. How do I do that?
This is how my mixer is setup:
Channel 2: Microphone
Channel 3-4: Waldorf (output 1)
Channel 5-6: Waldorf (output 2)
Channel 7-8: CS6x (output 1)
Channel 9-10: CS6x (output 2)
Channel 11-12 Roland XV (output 1)
Channel 13-14 Roland XV (output 2)
Channel 15-16 Roland XV (output 3)
How do I set up the mixer to send all the alternative outputs thru the BUS outs to the Pulsar??
"To send stuff out 5-8, you simply select the "PanRouting" button on the 03D, and navigate to the channel you'd like to send out the Bus, press Enter on the 03D, and it should go out that Bus!"
I dont get this. Where in the PanRouting menu? Under Bus to ST or 17-24 or what?
And one more thing. You told me earlier that I had connected the Pulsar Adat A DEST cables to the AUX outputs on the Bigmixer. Where am I supposed to connect the Adat A Dest if not in Aux?? All the R1-R16 outputs are taken by the ASIO24 Dest.
And if I use the Aux:es... how do I get sound?
I hope this should cover everything so I don't have to bother you again :/
Thanks!!!!

Upon request, here's a more detailed description of how to send things to Pulsar via a BUS on the 03d/01v.
How To Send Stuff out the BUS outputs on the 03D and 01v:
To send stuff out 5-8, you simply select the "PanRouting" button* on the 03D, and navigate to the channel [using the arrow keys on the mixer] you'd like to send out the Bus, press Enter on the 03D [after selecting 1,2,3, or 4 for your BUS], and it should go out that Bus! [And Into Pulsar]
* The "PanRouting Menu" is a button on the 03D labeled, you guessed it "Pan/Routing." You press it (once).
