While I agree to most of your suggestions, this one i really disagree with Maybe a better solution would be a separate section for promotion, easily accessible from the front page. But please, no banners!

Chat wouldn't be bad, but I don't know of a current chat system that doesn't require you to pass people to a 3rd party to access webchat systems. There used to be some good irc ones that would work via java or javascript (pjirc etc), but none of the ones I have used in the past work any longer. Current ones--when I have looked--run offsite as mentioned. If anyone can find an IRC web client that can both be installed on the server and that connects to an external IRC network/server of choice, then I can do this (efnet/quakenet preferred for this). Or...recommend what you think is better please.

- latest forum posts, i'll have to see what phpbb+joomla plugins exist.

I don't mind doing these things on the site frontend, but I would rather not have direct sharing to FB from the forums. FB is a bit of a dirty commons these days, and you have to consider the control structures there. Anything worthy of being posts there should either have its own web page on the developer's site, or we can make a feature on the front of this site (user devices of note, as a feature or etc...)

There's a search box top right at present, I'll see if I can add things around it. However I'm not sure how I feel about banners, though I will have to admit I've certainly appreciated the donations!

We can certainly do any of the above on the frontend of the forums (let's call that the 'scope users gateway' or something).
