Re: how to make the ultimate solo
haha, glad you found it interesting. Notice this is just introducing some of the more mundane "formulas" in coming up with lines to play or organizing your lines. These are considered elementary and people who put in effort to climb the ladder quickly graduate to more advanced concepts. So this is largely a joke to introduce the most elementary concepts as the "ultimate solo". (practitioners will cringe) In all honesty though, I think these elementary concepts are still meaningful to study. If you cannot write words, you cannot write coherent sentences. Basics are no joke.

How true.
Monk was so unique.
Never really knew how unique until the PBS Video series was released.
Sounds good Ken.
I use to woodshed Wes Montgomery and Oscar Petersen for ideas.
Really well developed solos, live or on recordings.

Re: how to make the ultimate solo
I was listening to Kenny Werner the other day. I adore his sound and love listening to him play, but I also thought I don't have that sound in me. I think I have a bit more energy and less fluidity, more innate funk to the sound. I think my compositions as a whole have a distinctive quality to them, but as for piano playing in particular, I don't think it's as developed yet. I don't think I've worked on that specifically, so probably a good time to focus on it. (I'm thinking more touch, less lines and chord voicing.. but I guess they're all integrated) Playing the piano is, so hard.. never gets easy.
Re: how to make the ultimate solo
If it was easy we would be without challenges.
Im doing underground free flow these days.
It's incredibly hard to go simple.
But equally challenging.

Re: how to make the ultimate solo
Very cool instruction, if only it was as simple as that ey
But actually if you can play, just not sure enough to improvise, these are actually good tips imho.
