I haven't had time yet Fraz. I'm still using Intel DP35DP which serves me very well. I have a few spare Pulsar 2 cards which I will use with new motherboards when I update.

Hey i'm about to update my 3 x Pulsar II system with a new mainboard and processor. would be interessted in what components you choose.
i'm working every day with my scope but i don't know s*it about pc configurations and all thaht.
my current config:

asus p5
core 2 duo 2,3
8gig ram
ATI Radeon HD 3450 512MB

It's runnig kind of ok most of the time. but i have some midi jitter and klicks and pops when i record more than 8 stereo chanel simultaniously. especially when i do stuff like open the gui of some scope devices or move the mixer to another spot on the screen. so i guess the graphic process is disturbing the system somehow.

i have a friend hows running two scope 15 on an asus h81-gamer with an xeon processor. i thought about getting that to and buy a cheaper i5. i don't need that much ghz as i don't use vst's at all. i'm just multitracking in ableton.

bare with my and my lack of pc knowledge,
would be nice to get some suggestions

Also I hear Ryzen server boards from a Gigabyte and ASRock are due out.
X370 can provide 32bit PCI.
I'm definitely wanting a non gaming Ryzen board.

Have a look on Amazon - I think you'll find some there - AsRock, Asus, MSI - PCI slots or no PCI slots depending on Xite or Scope - Search for Z97 or socket 1150.

I picked some up here and found some real gems!!! -

AsRock Z97 Anniversary [basic board 2 pci slots] 80 ish euros
AsRock Z97 Extreme 3 - 3 pci slots
MSI Z97 PC Mate - 2 pci slots i think

There are some 4790 k left at just under 300 - If this is too much there is Intel Pentium G 3258 Anniversary Edition dual core and about 80 euros

Also there are i5 4690k around 225

Have a look and don't run out of PCI slots - especially if you have PCI cards

i ordered this today: MSI Z97-G43

i`m still a little overwhelmed regarding the cpu.
i think it might not be necessary to spend 200+ for the latest i5/i7 cpu.
i have a dual dvi graphic card so i don't need that grapic chip inside the cpu.
or would it be a benefit without the additional pcie graphic card?
the only grapical stuff on my screen is the daw and the scope window.
also my cpu load is pretty low most of the time. my daw is usually under 20% and i deactivated multicore in ableton.
i just want to be future proof and want the system to run a little smoother as i got some jitter and pops like earlyer mentioned.

compared to my core 2 duo 2,3 i think something like a pentium g3420 3,2 ghz sounds like an upgrade to me.
or is ghz not the only data i should take care about??

you won't believe how much more powerful the new system will be. no, clock speed is not the only measurement of power as it once was.

you don't need to use the graphics on the cpu. the built-in graphics actually work pretty well, unlike in the XP days, but the card is probably better with better connectivity, if you are using both screens.

sounds like a bang for the buck to me.

Intel Pentium G 3258 is good for overclocking to a degree - It's an unlocked CPU but that i3 you pointed out may be just as good as it's only a little bit more expensive.

The MSI Z97 Gaming 3 you ordered is 3 x PCI slots and also has a thunderbolt 2 header and thunderbolt not that it is mentioned on MSI website. A very good board if you get a "new one"

Depending on your planned use - - Some people like to use Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 or 6 to use VST i over LAN [networking an extra machine]

AMD socket AM3+ and the 8350 CPU is around £115-120 now after Ryzen release and is around 10%-12% less useful than i7 4790 k but is a little in-efficient with its use of electricity at 125W TDP

I'm using 3 x scope II in a hybrid environment. i record some analog synth and drummachines in to my a16, add some scope synths and fx and then multitrack in ableton via direct outs. after some arrangement in ableton i'm summing on my old tascam desk and some outboard dynamics.
most of the time i'm not using vst's at all...

about that G 3258. it's only compareable to the 4170 when overclocked right?
i never did something like overclocking.... is it something i can adjust in the bios very easy?

You're probably correct about G3258 and overclocking vs i3 4170

I only mentioned Vienna Ensemble Pro or VEP for short in case you ever plan to use VST instruments such as Native-Instruments. It's a software that enables someone to use the power of another computer [slave] to run VSTi inside another [master] to overcome the limitation of what one computer is capable of.

So if you get i3 4170 you can run Scope all day just fine - But if you decide you want NI Komplete or similar in the future and need extra CPU power and RAM power another machine can be added to your Scope system to power VSTi. So as many machines as are needed as and when.

I thought to mention it just in case!

interesting that viena ensemble. but i really have more than enough with my hardware synths and scope plugins. enough for making stripped down techno tracker....
