I've just installed XP and I get very slow redraws on menus and moving synths in SFP3.1. Takes several seconds for the menus at the top to appear when you click on them. Under windows 98 it's very quick. Any ideas?

I installed as standard PC. The machine is intel 850i. I have a matrox g550 with bus mastering turned off. It's driving 2 monitors at 1280x1024.
To be or not to be. What was the question?

1. Update your Matrox drivers.
2. Turn off the Luna "candy" gui.
3. Try toggling your Graphics acceleration setting. Is it off maybe?

I have a G450, and it's not too bad, but I'm only driving one 22" monitor at the moment. I plan to go with an nVidia card with a DVI port (with LCD) for my next purchase... it'll be a little while.

Try disabling dual monitors and see if maybe it's related to running 2 screens, to help track down the problem.

Hi sub,
what do you mean by 2. Turn of luna candy?
Is there a way to reduce the SFP visual effects?

Luna is Microsoft's candy interface. Right click on your Desktop>Display Properties>Windows Classic.

ahha
yeah that goes as soon as i install XP. I cant stand that new look.

I seem to have fixed this performance issue by putting my graphics into 32bit colour. It was in 16bit colour before. This is kinda strange cos I had originally put it in 16bit colour since I was under the impresion it would boost performace.

Unfortunately ..

Under XP I removed my midiman and killed the usb drivers and did a fresh install of SFP and it started working ok.

Then I tried activating one USB driver and installing the Midiman 4x4 again and low and behold it stopped working. My scope/luna cards are using IRQ 5 and 9 and the USB is reportedly using IRQ 10. But there is obviously some conflict. I just get the impression generally that USB is not a good thing to have on a creamware based machine.
Oddly, disabling the usb now hasnt fixed it, I suspect I will have to do another fresh install.

The answer might be simply swopping my midiman box and getting a non usb midi interface. Any recommendations?

The only one I have come across is the egosys Miditerminal 4140 as seen here http://egosys.net/1-pro/eng/product/mt_4140/mt4140.html

Also, when I load Logic under XP I also get a "While trying to open MIDI port "Creamware MIDI In/Out 2" in function midiInOpen", the error "there is no driver installed on your system" occured. Maker sure that the midi interface is connected and switched on....

However, the midi works ok under my old cubase vst. Im in two minds whether to sell logic before I get too attached with it but It would be nice to get it going under XP.
