New to Scope
Re: New to Scope
I avoided getting Z Link.
Wanted an A16 Ultra, but my XITE-1 is months old, the other XITE-1 was 7 years old when I traded up for a new one.
The Behringers are brand new.
The whole rig sits in a 6U ATA, with a 4U ATA for the PC.
A small stack considering what it does.

Re: New to Scope
Ok. So the Xite-1 basically has the equivalent of 66 old dsp raw processing power, and other resources account for the xtra 24-84 dsp processing power, rendering in total the equivalent of 90-150 of old dsp.garyb wrote:6, same as the D.
it's kinda immaterial. as i said before, the XITE-1 is about 6-10 15dsp cards in power(90-150 of the old dsps).
it is not the Sharcs that are 1st and 2nd gen, it's the cards. dsp generations are NOT like cpu generations. newer ones aren't necessarily better and old ones aren't necessarily worse. it's more about the correct choices for the use. both types of Sharcs in all Scope products are intended for audio applications and use basically the same instruction sets. there aren't 3 different Sharcs that have been used, only two. the old Sharcs are still a current Analog Devices product. ALL of the PCI cards use the same chips. the XITEs use the same chips plus some newer, more powerful chips in addition to the old ones.
That is quite a lot; it is indeed much more powerful. Before opening this thread I had the impression the Xite-1 had only the equivalent power of 18 old dsp.
Given this I suppose then the Xite-1/D is much more powerful than the equivalent processing power of 34 old dsp.

Thanks for the info dante.dante wrote:XITE-1D (when available) = 6 old Sharcs + 4 new
XITE-1 = 6 old Sharcs + 12 new.
Theres more info here http://www.hitfoundry.com/scope/ - select XITE-1 from the menu (right hand second row).

Like Zarg stuff... which I've heard is awesome... That is sadjksuperstar wrote:And 98% of devices run on either new or older sharc DSPs. The new ones are backward compatible with the old code...they simply run faster and more efficiently to get the large improvement in performance.
Only a select few devices have a *harder* time running on the xite.

Thanks gary, but I can't buy at this moment.
Re: New to Scope
Zarg synths work on the XITE, but not with a lot of polyphony. they're really fat, though. it depends on what you are doing whether you actually need a lot of polyphony.
Re: New to Scope
Zarg Solaris on XITE is underated, especially since there is also Solaris Core, a stripped down version of the full flagship Solaris. There are workarounds to take advantage of and yes the Zargs are fat bastards.
Here for more info and on QWave as well for running them on the XITE-1D (let alone the full XITE) :

Good to know that. Not a big deal for me.garyb wrote:Zarg synths work on the XITE, but not with a lot of polyphony. they're really fat, though. it depends on what you are doing whether you actually need a lot of polyphony.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'll check the link.dante wrote:Zarg Solaris on XITE is underated, especially since there is also Solaris Core, a stripped down version of the full flagship Solaris. There are workarounds to take advantage of and yes the Zargs are fat bastards.

Re: New to Scope
the sample OSCs of the Zarg synths don't work in 64bit, but that is for all hardware.
the regular OSCs work fine in 64bit.

Sadly it looks like Zarg's website is gone. I just went to http://www.zargmusic.com/ and that website is gone and the domain seems to be for sale. Atleast John Bowen still sells many of his devices on SonicCore's website but not all are there. One may have to email John to see if Solaris-Core is still for sale since it isn't on S|C's website. All of the main devices are on S|C's website wich is good and ensures no purchasing problems hopefully John still sells the other less popular devices via email.

Yea, I know he can still be reached, I just was saddened and surprised that his website was gone.
But it's good you posted a link to his other website for those who are interested in contacting John Bowen for device info.
