A16 Ultra: ADAT v Z-Link
I have an A16 Ultra, currently connected via a single Z-Link to my Luna2 card. I'm looking to add another card to my system both for DSP and increased I/O. My question is this: is there any difference between using the A16 via Z-Link, or via ADAT? Is ADAT more limited by bit depth and samplerate?
Re: A16 Ultra: ADAT v Z-Link
both should work equally well. yes, ADAT is limited to 24bit/48khz maximum resolution, with s/mux it can run half of the channels but at 24bit/96khz. Z-Link will do 24/96 with all 16 channels.

Great. So I was thinking..... with a Luna2 and Pulsar2 Classic, I could use the ZLink on the Luna for 8 channels at 24/96, and the s/mux feature to use the 2xADAT on the Pulsar for 8 more channels at 24/96... meaning all 16 channels at 24/96?garyb wrote:both should work equally well. yes, ADAT is limited to 24bit/48khz maximum resolution, with s/mux it can run half of the channels but at 24bit/96khz. no, while i believe that you can send data from Z-Link to ADAT via the A16, you can't attach devices to both connectors and expect to use both devices. to do what you describe, you'd need another A16. it';s either Z-Link OR ADAT, not Z-Link AND ADAT.

Ok, got it. 16 channels into the Pulsar2 ADATs at 24/48 is fine by me.garyb wrote:no, while i believe that you can send data from Z-Link to ADAT via the A16, you can't attach devices to both connectors and expect to use both devices. to do what you describe, you'd need another A16. it';s either Z-Link OR ADAT, not Z-Link AND ADAT.
