I was making music last night and everything was (finally) running smoothly. I was using about 2/3 of my dsps and all seemed fine when suddenly sfp stopped making any sound. I could still click on things and move stuff about but there was no sound and the mixer's metrebridge had frozen.
When I tried to reload a device it said that it couldnt communicate with the board and suggested reloading all devices to try and cure the problem. I clicked cancel and SFP bombed out with a blue screen.
Could this be due to overheating?
Once I reloaded SFP it seemed to be ok.
I have an old scope board and a new scope srb board togheter in my pc. The only fan I have is the cpu fan. The surface of the pc gets warm.
I imagine it would be tricky to fit a fan inside cos its a 4u rackmount case with little room in it.
SFP freezes (posibly getting too hot?)

This is the first thing that I thought when I started reading your post. With 2 SCOPEs, I had to turn on the front fan on my 4U rack, as well, otherwise a few hours in, after things heat up, I get the same thing. You definitely want more than just a CPU fan with 2 scope boards!

It was great until it started making funny noises. I think the bearings went out after only a few months. But while it worked it worked well. Really blew some air but it was pretty quiet until it went bad.
Maybe there are better quality models than the one I bought (sorry to say I don't remember which brand it was). I bought it at Best Buy or one of those places. They don't cost much. Get one and try it.

Now I just use normal high quality quiet case fans (Pabst,Panaflo)hmm those things sound like trouble then, in fact on a website where they sell them I see similar comments. For now Ive strapped 2 old sunon fans with wire ties to the frame of the case pointing down on the cards. Ive also removed a spare blanking plate and the sync card which Im not using to provide exhaust space. Ill see how this goes and if it suffices Ill probably just swop the fans for some quieter pabst ones.
