Re: Presonus Studio One 3 is out !
If I understood well the second video, you can buy studio one prime (or something like this) which contain only the DAW without all sounds stuff ? Tell me if I'm wrong.
Because when I update from 5 to Cubase 8 = 299€ (!!!! just a bit less than price of non update Studio one pro) I had to download 9 Go full of sound files which I'll never use ! And there was no way to just buy the software without all that stuff and pay a better price !
Maybe next time I'll change DAW, I'm fed up to not have the choice and buy things I really don't need.

Looks nice, I never even heard of it. I'm a Sonar guy. Only bought the basic version ($100) as I have Scope and UAD.

A cursory glance at the video.... I like the SCOPE-like project window and the pattern stacking. Reminds me of Bidule and Project 5 which I liked a lot.

I think they stole their plugin routing window from Tracktion. Tracktion has a modular routing window for its plugin chains wich I think was unique to it for many years (before Studio One was born). Here's a video of Tracktions Racks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YggaZBRAjw0
Tracktion is a powerfull DAW that is simple to use with one page and does not have all the unnecessary bloat most other DAW's have. It's a 7MB installer and you don't see a focus of more plugins and sample libraries, etc with each upgrade, just fundamentally sound and true DAW features and functionality - http://www.tracktion.com/
Tracktion has some really nice features to only be $60 such as freeze points, low-latency monitoring (freezes the whole project and allows it to playback at the lowest latency while tracking), Detailed cpu monitoring from whole project to the cpu percentage used from individual plugins, Step Clips, Rack filters, etc . Tracktion 6 was just released and it didn't get a lot of attention on forums but I have been impressed by its concept from what I've seen. love the focus on leaness rather than unnecessary plugins, IR's, sample libraries, etc bloat. I love the modular routing for the plugins and tracks. Tracktion is not a "me to" DAW and has its own concept and workflow that differs significantly from other DAWs. Tracktion 4 is freeware and Tracktion 6 is only $60. Tracktion has fast development to as the owners are dedicated to the job once they bought it back from Mackie.

7MB? Why is my "basic" version of Cakewalk that isn't a cakewalk anymore like 2 DVDs!
I like simple.

Yep it's VERY lean but has ALOT of functionality. I use Sonar X3 Producer and it's over 6 GB's. Sonar's bloated with samples, plugins and other unnecessary things and with more bloat to come (drum replacer). Unnecessary stuff can cause stability issues especially when a app has almost 30 years of old code mixed in with newer code that's constantly piled on. Sonar has had its bug problems and stability issues, I was hoping a change in focus would come but I still see the heavy focus on more plugins, sample libraries, IR's, etc rather than the type of DAW features I want such as a rebuild of the Audio Engine. They did just rebuilt the MIDI engine and fixed the stuck notes problem it caused wich is good. I hope the new owners Gibson can turn things around at some point.

I think I started with Cakewalk 6. I don't even use the extra crap that comes with it! I just went to their website and they don't even sell X3. Oh man. It's only 1 year old.

Re: Presonus Studio One 3 is out !
I switched from Sonar to Studio One a few months back (in Feb IIRC). v2 is excellent, I can't really fault it. Rock solid stable, very clean, uncluttered UI, and the workflow suits me down to the ground.
I'd been with Sonar for about 8 years, but despite all the additional bells 'n' whistles which Cakewalk added over that time, core functional deficiencies and limitations were neglected. The Platinum release failed to address any of these so I trialed just about every modern DAW out there and Studio One was the one which suited me best.
As for Studio One v3, I'll probably give the demo a try out at some point, but even if I was intending to buy it I'd wait a while first, at least until a few point release updates have been made; new software releases always have problems which need to be ironed out. It makes no sense to me to switch from something that's rock solid to something which will be less stable and perform less efficiently.

Re: Presonus Studio One 3 is out !
I'm watching a complete review of Sudio one 3 and I'm really impressed ! In fact, I begin to have some regrets to my Cubase 8 update (
299€ !!
Yes, 299€ ! Not Cubase, just the update from cubase 5 !)... Studio one doesn't have a lot of midi plugins, and I use a lot of midi fx but maybe, Studio one is compatible vst midi fx plugins ?
And if it is not yet vst midi plugins compatible, it will become in a next update : you have the excellent pizmidi plugins free bundle (http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi) and I hope Studio One can load them...
Large review / test :
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... nqr4kQ4Qki
But in french.
I like the fx routing and scratch pad...
I believe that for next update, I'll think about it twice !
Thanks, Vasco.

Re: Presonus Studio One 3 is out !
I've had to use presonus studio once, in a pinch.. it was the only daw I could find quickly that had samples and instruments preloaded, that I could just download and start using right away. I only needed a few sounds and I inputted all notes with mouse. (since I didn't have anything with me) I remember it was pretty smooth to use, though this was some 2-3 years ago. At the end of the day it got the job done and the product was shipped so I guess it "made the cut". Can't say I enjoyed being ambushed with work like that though. (that's why we have production schedules. grrr)
I do remember being surprised at how fully featured it was. One may get the impression (because it starts off "free") that it's some crap software they built to bundle with their hardware, but as far as I could see, a lot of thought and care has gone into the product, and I felt it. It's was definitely different from when I used Tracktion to prove that great things can be done with a budget DAW. With Tracktion I was fighting its limited feature set and particular workflow.. I had to adapt to it, which was fun, but not something I'd enjoy doing in a rush job / pinch. With Studio one I felt like I could just do my thing and the facilities pretty much all there, doing expected things in a predictable manner. I can't comment on stability though, since the project I used it for was pretty small, and I only used it for an afternoon. (remember, rush job?) I also remember they have a modular download concept, where you just get the samples/instruments you need. And that was a life saver since I had to get writing quick.
I wouldn't rave about it changing the world, but I think it gets my nod as being an effective piece of production tool. (which is pretty good I think) There aren't that many tools these days that can go from first time download -> production in one straight go. That's a pretty fantastic feat.
