WIndows 8.1 Jive

Post by dawman »

How can I stop M$ and all other "helpers" from updating my PC.
The first few days I allowed access, but I cannot find how to stop all automatic updates... :x

Reason is I have had the PC crash once a day on me before I could save my work.
Not even sure if it is M$ doing this or some other "helper" that seems to think errors are occurring.

I cannot have this happen while I am gigging, seems like only when online but I am quite distraught that I get the same looking message twice about how they are "helping" me fix errors which I don't notice.

The Event Log said something or someone is trying to use a blank password for access on my PC.

Whatever that means I don't Like it so any help appreciated.

Windows 8.1......very fast..........but what a crock of shit that they have cooked
up about "helping" me...

There is a way, as I have mine turned off. I have Windows 8.0 base - no updates which is the way it will be till Windows 10 or Scope 6 probably.

Google it you will get a squillion links eg:

http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=faq-Windows-8&faq=34

http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/windo ... uto-update

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... =windows-8

Windows 8.x is the best Windows so far IMHO based purely on boot up time. From that perspective, MS have helped me big time - I can get into my sessions way quicker

Turned off here. I do check from time to time in case of critical security stuff. That's all I allow.

Found it and turned it off.
Same for the Virus protection stuff.
Pretty sure it was because of my rig being online and re installing everything from scratch.

I remember seeing the option during an installation and said "let me decide" but it somehow managed to update itself, and now it seems as though I am OK.

Got me a tablet PC for internet and downloading now, this rig won't be online ever again....
