Korg Triton touch screen
Korg Triton touch screen
Looks like I've used up all the finger-pokes on my Korg Triton touch screen. The screen is starting to fade away (looks like someone took a Brillo pad to it) and touch sensitivity is at an all-time low.
I found this:
http://www.instrumentalparts.com/korg-t ... inity.html
And it looks legit. Does anyone have any experience replacing these old touch-screen assemblies. I don't have any problem attempting the work myself but I'm just trying to gauge the success-fulness of spending almost $300 on part for a 10+ year old keyboard vs just buying something newer. I'm under the impression that these 3rd party parts aren't necessarily 100% compatible. Just curious.

lol yeah I sent him a PM.
Re: Korg Triton touch screen
its easy several screws 3 cables and the head display comes off
then you remove the plastic hood fit the new lcd/touchscreen complete module from instrumental parts
and screw it back into the plastic hood then fit the plastic hood back to the synth and fit its fixing screws replace the 3 cables the mfc flat cable s the touch screen that goes to the black mfc socket on the screen control pcb
the 2 wire back light cable and the multi wire lcd cable then fit the screen control pcb board back
it takes about 1-2 hours from start to finish no soldering or desoldering involved its all plug and play
you will need to remove the mother board to get to the screen control board
while your at it remove the output board and reflow the solder pads for all the jacks while you have the machine open
thanks jammie

Thanks for those suggestions jhulk! I've had the entire unit apart once before to deal with a sticky key on the keyboard. It's not complicated to take it apart and put it back together (well... let's just say it wasn't beyond my technical expertise lol). The main challenge was keeping track of all the screws and whatnot lol.

Digital camera:
It may be obvious, but it works extremely well.
Yes, "digital camera", this is the answer to the difficult dismantle pieces and memory problems. You take your cam and go step by step taking pictures of the process, then immediately after you organize them with numbers and writen descriptions in your PC. When coming back is is a joy to redo everything you did, step by step, you will have all what you have done in front of you and in an organized way.

Re: Korg Triton touch screen
The new touch screen was installed today and is working perfectly. Sort of. The touch sensitivity is like brand new but the graphics look kinda greyish or faded. Kinda ghostly looking. Not clean and crisp like normal. I'll run this by jhulk off-line to see if he has any ideas. But the root problem is fixed. I can live with a slightly faded looking display for now. As long as it doesn't fade away entirely lol.
And yes I used my camera to keep track of things. A great idea that helped. Thanks guys. The whole process took me about two hours.

Hey Krizrox!
I’m glad you finally got it right, I could feel your pain, it took too long but it is over. You can probably raise slightly the amount of energy the display receives to make it slightly brighter, but I don’t know if this parameter can be programed.

Re: Korg Triton touch screen
Yes jhulk explained the procedure to me (I also found the instructions in my user manual). Looks and functions like brand new now. So happy to have this working again. This Triton synth has paid for itself many times over. Used on countless albums and demos here in my studio. One of the best investments I made. The floppy drive will probably be the next thing to crap out lol.
Thanks jhulk and everyone else - you all rock!!!

Re: Korg Triton touch screen
yes just do away with the floppy and fit a scsi2sd card in an external case and use the scsi man much faster i build kmp files wirth wavetables and sampler instruments and floppy drives qare to small to move the larger files around
Re: Korg Triton touch screen
That sounds interesting. I only use the drive to occasionally load my Classic Keys sounds. The floppy drive gets used maybe once or twice every two years lol. Maybe that's why it's still working lol
Re: Korg Triton touch screen
if you want to load some single cycle wavetables for synth creation you can save them to floppy via a pc easily they are small so you can fit about 50 on a floppy disk
my noise spectrum t5ypes are great for etheral chiors
i had a triton and even though it had bigger ram i prefered my trinity as it used the dual filters and you can get some great filture textures from them
its the same filter in the prophecy aND Z1
I HAVE THE Z1 WHICH I LIKE A LOT JOHN BOWEN WORKED ON THAT AND THE PROPHECY I HAVE AS A CARD IN THE TRINITY AS A PLUS MACHINE
SO I HAVE BEST OF BOTH
i have scsi and flash ram and 8mb pcm ram which is small but for my wavetables its just greart as 100 new multisounds you can create a lot of new content
the triton you can fit much larger samples
