using Scope - DAW Waves format 24 or 32 bit?

Post by Booli »

Hi.
I work with Scope DSP and Cubase/Reaper,
and I wonder whether I should work inside my DAW with waves recordings in 24 bit or 32?

I'll explain why the dilemma:
I used to work with 32, but recently I came aware of dithering.
Understanding the need of dithering I now wonder shouldn't I move working with wave 24 bit.
Because the SCOPE ASIO device is 24 (or 16, but not 32!).
Then if I work 32 inside my DAW, then then there is downgrade each time the wave go through Scope (to 24),
and since no dithering is involved, then the wave might be downgraded.
Is it true?
If so - I better use my DAW waves as 24 and not 32, is so?

Best Regards,
Booli

Asio is for the Host not SCOPE. SCOPE's Mixers are 32bit fixed point and 40bit floating point. There can be a conversion from fixed point to floating point when going from SCOPE's environment to Native but both can be 32bit. SCOPE provides Asio Drivers for your host in all three formats 16bit/24bit/32bit . So basically there is 32bit Asio module available for SCOPE's DAW clients also. I use 24bit Asio cause it works best for my situation and my 'Final Record's format' is 24bit 96khz. I generally don't use dither.

in v5.1, there are only the 32bit and 32bit floar modules because a 16bit host will use 16bits of data even with the 32bit module.

dither is NOT needed for most pop music. dither IS needed for acoustic music with minimal instrumentation and maximum dynamics. one can easily do comparisons to check this statement...
