Is it possible to use s-mux with A16 converters?

no.

s-mux is used when converting in 24bit and 96kHz and streaming that via optical adat lightpipe (which is only capable to submit 48kHz). the signal gets splitted into two streams and led together again within the s-mux module (like bit splitting, but with samplerate).

the a16 converts @ 16bit/48kHz, there is no need for s-mux.

Mo,
I'm trying to record 24/96 with the A16's that's why I ask.
A16's only go up to 48

afaik the a16 is only able to send a 16bit/48khz-stream via the lightpipe.

you need a 24bit-converter, if you want to record in 24bit... otherwise it makes not much sense...

and for recording a 24bit/96k-signal via s-mux adat, an s-mux-compliant converter like the rme adi-8 ds is needed.
