s-mux is used when converting in 24bit and 96kHz and streaming that via optical adat lightpipe (which is only capable to submit 48kHz). the signal gets splitted into two streams and led together again within the s-mux module (like bit splitting, but with samplerate).
the a16 converts @ 16bit/48kHz, there is no need for s-mux.
