Win 8 dosent like my Scope Windows!(SOLVED)

Post by YISH313z »

On XP i kept the Scope windows/plugins open throughout my sessions, however on Win 8 anytime I open a Scope plugin the click and pops start, as soon as I hide all Scope windows, including the program window itself, the pops stop. Ive tried looking for a solution but have not been successful.

any tips?

Specs:
Windows 8
Quad core2
intel DP35DP
Nvidia GT430
4gb ram
2x Pulsar2/1x Luna/Scope 5.1
Cubase 7 elements

what's sharing an irq? the video card?
did you turn off aero? computer\properties\advanced\performance settings\adjust for best performance

what hardware are you using? how much ram? what else is running besides Scope? if you're using a number of vsts/vstis. does it work correctly without those plugins running?

otherwise, something is running in the background that is eating resources. it takes resources to display windows.

it's your computer. win8 has no problem with Scope windows in particular.

At the moment I only use VSTs(miss my STS though), the issue is the same if I have just an audio file play in Cubase and no other tracks exist. baffling!

Cubase and Scope running only. I tweaked the system when I started getting these issues(the usual unneeded services, turn off all the pretty stuff, etc), but that helped not. If I switch over to my XP drive it runs perfect, save for the fact that I cant use Cubase 7 and other plugins that no longer support XP(NI).

USB-wise i'm using all of the ports: qwerty keyboard, mouse, ilok, midi controller, wifi adapter(it pops even without this), mbox2(preamp)

you have three usb controllers sharing irqs with the cards. turn them off.
you can use a hub for the keyboard, mouse, ilock, wifi adaptor and never notice the difference. you can probably put the midi controller or the mbox on the hub without issues.

how is the maudio box better than a real preamp for that money? why wouldn't you replace it with the best mic pre that you could get selling the mbox? do as you wish, i'm just bringing up one aspect of reality, there are others that may take precedence in your life.

the UAD is also sharing an irq with the Scope card. this might be ok, if the UAD is willing to wait for the Scope card, but if the UAD can't wait and both want to use the cpu at the same time, chaos is likely to result. can the UAD be moved?

okay, I need to grab a usb hub to account for my devices, except the mbox, it requires a dedicated port, just got Halion 5 and need to get a license dongle so its right on time. i will report back if the usb disables help

The MBOX2 is for Protools mostly, if needed anyway. It was purchased for that purpose, I'm not really doing any real vocal work at home, just me dabbling, it stays unplugged most of the time. As far as a real preamp, maybe if i need to do some serious vocal recording, at the moment my partners studio is well equipped and used for more of our professional vocal work, I'm just composing music at home. The UAD and Scope cards seem to work together fine, but I have the Intel DP35 and all of the slots are in use.

why do you need the mbox to do serious vocals? i'd prefer a real mic pre....

otherwise, do what ever seems right to you. there's nothing wrong with using the mbox.

Never said that. lol

No, when we bought the MBOX it was in the Protools LE 7 days, folks brought in most sessions in that format, we were using Cubase SX at the time. I use the MBOX for Protools now if I have a session from a client, but its been more than 5 years since ive done that, thats why its unplugged most of the time, and when I do plug it in its for my own dabbling; vocals, guitar, the occasional live clap/slap track.

If pro vocals are needed its done in the Studio, there we have Protools 11 on OSX running through the Tascam DM-4800, with a Focusrite preamp.

going into the shortcut properties fore Scope, under compatibility, i checked "disable display scaling" and the madness stopped.

I can now get back to using Scope.

great! do you have Aero enabled?
if so, that takes a HELL of a lot of resources. that might be why you needed to make that change to properties.

I have clicks and pops on a number of plugs (e.g. MasterVerb pro x and Peter's Ambient Processor).
I think your tip fixed it.
Thanks a lot - its bug me for a long time.
BTW I am using WIN 7 Pro 64Bit and SCOPE XITE-1.

if the windows are the standard win7 with translucent borders then it's Aero. if the windows look like win98, then not.

then you are using a TON of your computer's resources to make the windows look cool. that's probably why you had clicks.

in computer properties, click the advanced tab. click "settings" in the performance section. put a mark in the box for "adjust for best performance".
