socket 1155 motherboard - 4 PCI slots for old pulsars & xite
-- updated --
hi,
it's Jetway NAF93-Q77 motherboard for sale (up to 32G of DDR1600 ram and up to core i7 3770k cpu).
That motherboard has no third party PCIE-PCI bridge, it uses intel's own implementation in southbridge, works okay with old PCI pulsars (up to 8 masterverbs for single 2gen Pulsar2). Tested working together with 6 other cards: PCI tc powercore, adaptec dual channel ultra 320 scsi, lynx aes16 and pci-e Xite, firewire800 and Ati Firepro w5000 video card. everything worked together fine.
Motherboard also has PS/2, COM (many of them) and LPT ports - rare thing these days.
see it on ebay or give me an offer here. exchange to other gear also possible.

When I google I get it all for about EUR 600.- or less incl. 19% VAT (which I´d get back by tax return anyway).

Well, everything's one month old here and in one place. Offers welcome
CPU and RAM is nothing exotic, but mobo was hard to get (in Europe).

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
i doubt it will work well with Scope cards. none of the motherboards with 1155 sockets have worked. sorry....
Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
it's the one that will
unless there is proof that someone tried q77 based mobo without pcie-pci bridge like this one and it didn't work~
that's the reason i didn't get 1150 - there are no consumer/business chipsets for 1150 that support pci natively.
well there are two chipsets for xeon E3 line with 1150 - c222 and c224 - which have pci capability, but i am not aware of any motherboards that use that capability.

I tried a q77 motherboard lately. It worked extremely bad with the PCI cards.

When it comes to 'Motherboards working welll with Creamware PCI cards', the rule is not:
"They work, unless otherwise proven"
The rule is:
"They may or may not work, until good or bad results have been confirmed".
I had high hopes for my Asus P8Q77-M. As it turns out, it is probably even worse than my first motherboard ... with the dreaded Via Apollo Pro Chipset. I get an error message when loading my second MasterVerb.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
oh.
Asus P8Q77-M seems not to have pcie-pci bridge either. is there something wrong with DMA then?
sadly i don't have pci pulsars anymore, and TC Powercore is proabably using it's own ram for reverbs.
I will try to get a Pulsar then and test how it performs.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
you mean LGA1155....
Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
yes the 1155
sorry
sorry
Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
okay folks, here's a proof.
I acquired Pulsar 2 (again!) and just did the test:
7 stereo masterverbs (not pro, not classic) in sfp 3.1b
yes i did get several pci capacity limit reached warnings on loading, but after clicking okay, everything went on fine, i daisy chained 7 of them and played a synth to the first one to ensure that they're actually working from first to very last...
and they did, but i got 'dsp limit reached' and 8-th masterverb would not function.
so far so good. is it a bad result for 6dsp? i might try it without any mixers or unnecessary i/o's loaded, no synth, just some external sound input and masterverbs - that would make some room for more verbs.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
well, it's acceptable, but not really very good.
the 7 masterverbs isn't spectacular, but it's not bad either. i'd call it "good", or "good enough".
getting overflow messages on the way to maxing out at 7 isn't that good.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite

managed to get 8 - can't get any more because of dsp limit.
how many do folks get with 6 dsps normally?
Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
obviously it's plenty for the Pulsar2. great! it works!
really, i'm glad. there are people with 1155 processors who would like a board that works.
as i said, the number of verbs is acceptable. the overload messages really shouldn't be happening, though. not until 9 or 10, at least, so a pulsar2 shouldn't see any messages until it runs out of dsp. i would imagine that this board would work pretty well for many users. depending on what kind of projects they try to load, they may be clearing an overload message or two before they can work. it's not really a problem, but some people are easily disturbed.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
well it does.
but as i said, it gives pci overrun after third plugin and a few more while loading up to 7.
i wonder how much it would go with two scope cards, when dsp is no limit.
i also tried the following (on software v5.1): make external send / return bus (Aux1 and Aux2) on stm1632
load modular 2 'analog drum machine' and connect to mixer
load stereo SC-Plate reverb and try to connect mixer's Aux1 and Aux2 ports to inputs and reverb's outputs to mixer's Rt1L / R - it gives pci overflow and i can't get past it. (although same modular connected directly to SC-Plate works fine). - you can try that with your machines if curious.
pci latency in bios have no effect on those overflows all the way from 32 to 248.
maybe q77 is really not to up to older chipsets performance, but again i'm able to run reverbs in XTC mode along with PCI TC Powercore's Virus synth and low latencies no problem.

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
my two-pennies worth - i always had issues with socket 1155 boards - i was always able to get one pulsar 2 working on its own but was never able to cascade 2 or 3 together via stdm.....i always got pci warnings ( i think capacity reached)...the xite1 however runs without any trouble on this board
i also had crashes whenever i tried to run the STS samplers too, even on just one pulsar 2....
i got sick of trying to find a 'compatible' modern board so went back to an old dual xeon system for my pci cards

Re: i7 3770 based PC upgrade useful for PCI pulsars or xite
well if i had a second pulsar, i'd give it a try, but i don't.
it would be interested to check Supermicro X10SLX-F - it has Intel 6700PXH pci-x bridge. maybe serious one
as for native pci, the song seemed finished with core i7 3xxx series, but actually there are two more xeon chipsets that carried pci support into haswell era, although haven't seen any motherboards having actual slots...

yep, i always found 'right' boards with 'wrong' slots
assholes

so that's it, only the mobo for sale:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1244989705
to be exact how it behaves with single 2gen pulsar2:
3 masterverbs until <pci overflow>, but clicking ok you can go to 7 and they actually work (tested).
xite tested working too (didn't check verbs though)
