Mono in Scope vs Mono in TC Electronic BMC-2

Post by emotive »

With sound devices other than Scope mono sums evenly across channels but no so with Scope, unless I use mono from the Mixer.

Might this be because I am using a balanced connection for S/PDIF rather than unbalanced and can any damage to hardware result?

Connecting to 1 side of a stereo input but expecting mono performance is a feature added to some devices not to be smart for pros, but to avoid customer support calls by consumers. The added switching mechanisms and logic destroy an otherwise more pure audio path. Be smarter than the device, tell it what you want to do (be mono or connect a signal to both L/R inputs).

I don't know how you have a balanced spdif cable...RCA jacks are very homogenously single ended.

Hi JK,

I have an AES card, as well as 2 S/PDIF cards (all Pulsar II).

Thanks

Ah. Then this should help understand the differences between aes and spdif, and when to use a converter.
