Well all went well last night. Small venue so crowd wasn't huge but good enough for a more experimental evening. Have to say I was more nervous the two hours before the gig than when we actually played. Sound check was the usual five minutes, but hey ho, what you gonna do? Didn't drink till afterwards in the end. I still had some nerves though as the pieces flew by at somewhat faster than normal tempo (I dictate the tempo on three of the fives parts).

Everyone was lovely. Not sure how much of the criticism was politeness - your mates are not going to tell you you were shit unless they're quite brutal friends.

Don't think it was videoed in the end (I was concentrating too hard to be honest to notice anything peripheral like that), but there may be some crappy phone footage at some point if it's not too horrific.

All in all a good night, although getting the night bus home in the rain wasn't so much fun.

temps are always faster live. adrenalin and expectations take care of that.

yes, your friends are not the audience. even if they had brutal criticisms, you just file those away and move one. it's what strangers experience that is more important to measure the success and entertainment value. friends are great, but no one has had a successful career making music for friends alone.

Gotta say, it's something that was absent in my life, collaboration in music, when musical styles and abilities meld to create a critical mass that allows a chain reaction that sustains itself, a positive feedback loop of momentary creativities in a group.
The thermal runaway of focussed selfless music - turns out that it appears, to me at least, that this is what folk seem to enjoy most in performance - no different to myself.
And which is why Gary that pic your sis posted of you is spot on, in that moment where the guitar did the talking...

It's all highly enjoyable, nearly addictive.

Late bus in the rain, sure that's part of it! Bringing your gear on that bus, that's a different story...
