hey all, hope you guys had a great new years.
I've been working on a penultimate lead sound. Kind of like a joke, nothing useful, but my goal is to fulfill these criteria:
1. cuts through everything. And I mean, EVERYTHING. It's so prominent, it renders all other tracks in the mix useless.
2. as loud as digitally possible, in all frequency range
3. covers the entire stereo field, as densely as possible. Any other tracks should become unintelligible.
4. should have discernible pitch.
And when a "lead" reaches such dominance, such power, the lead transforms beyond "solo", and becomes "singularity", since it becomes the only thing in existence. Is it possible to make something like this? And would it be possible to write music to feature it? How do you write music for an instrument that overpowers everything else?

I think pitched noise will do your job. Are you going to kill somebody with that? Perhaps your neighbours?

The closest I heard to this would be John McLaughlin with his guitar thru a ring modulator on 'Visions of an Emerald Beyond'.

Re: penultimate lead synth
I already have it my friend.
It is pon par with my Analog synth too. The Filter is the only thing that gives it away, but it is still a very good synth.
You will need Silentway Suite, and 14 ASIO sends.
Make your own, or I can send you the entire layout for Bidule or Reaper, and the Modular patch.
The synth now has seperate Oscillator Glide, incredibly powerful sound for a DSP synth, snappy ass envelopes that drip resonance,
the LFOs have incredible depth and control, the portamento is to die for, but I use the 8 Oscillators monophonically.
I can make a demo I suppose, but not until tomorrow afternoon. But this is a FAT Bastard using Master/Slave Sync Oscillators, 4 pairs.
Using Sharcs or DJMicrons Multi Out Oscillators it gets even bigger. You can build it the way you want but you'll have to break down
and get Expert Sleepers Silentway Suite as it
provides the Scope modules the 24bit audio necessary for the audiorate modulations.
The Shell is also recallable by screensets like all optimized modules for the XITE-1, which also work on the cards too.

Why are you using the expert sleepers?
"Silent Way is a suite of plug-ins designed for use with analogue synthesisers, and especially as part of a modular analogue synthesiser system."
You are replacing 32 bit for 24 bit signals?
Sparing 14 asio outputs? I can understand if you like the sound because sometimes i use reaktor to get sample accurate envelopes but
my lfos and stuff at scope are superior than anything vst like. And Silent way is vst like...
I have driven a doepler analogue synth with reaktor envelopes and scope lfos. It was fabulous...

Actually it allows me to get a better Filter sweep, the LFOs and EGs are just like hardware now as Native and DSP EGs just seem mushy.
I had to hear the results myself but for the price it was worth the risk, and now I am glad I did it.
From what I understand when JBowen was designing Solaris, that the audiorate modulations @96k give it the sound quality. I am useing AES/EBU @ 48k in Scope and love the sound quality.
My LFOs in Modular and other Scope synths are a big step under ES's method using ASIO.
Besides I only need 20 more ASIO Sends for my Native needs.
Even considering going from hardware to the IIRCAM Spat since my CPU barely hits 15% on all 4 cores, and I am running custom scripts in Kontakt. PianoTeq being a PhysMod uses very little CPU for some reason too. May as well try the Native verbs everyone keeps claiming sound so good, if they suck, I am only out the cost of an iLok which I will gladly enjoy stomping to pieces if not needed.

Re: penultimate lead synth
You should use scope at 96.
I agree for scope standard envelopes. If you look them with a oscilloscope the attack is smoothed. It starts at 0.3 ms, which is bad because human hearing likes 0 ms attack for percussive timbres. I use my custom envelopes for scope that are 0 ms attack.
Perhaps i'll upload these someday. I disagree about vst envelopes, to my ear they sound pretty good. (reaktor for example)
Vst lucks (for my taste) in all the other areas except envelopes. (filtering, oscillators, pitch modulation)
I'm not a big fan of analogue either. Most setups are very simplistic for my needs and big setups too overwhelming.

Re: penultimate lead synth
I think I should try it for recording, but for live work I am quite happy with current sound quality.
Would love to see your envelopes, the 0.msec sounds nice.

What's a penultimate lead sound?
