Lost my Pulsar II software disk.

Post by Neil B »

I had a system crash on my XP Music pc this week.
Not sure what caused it.
I've reinstalled Win Xp and have found that my graphic card is acting up - this is problem number one.

I removed my Pulsar II card & reinserted it.
Firstly, I didn't get a "new hardware found" message

Anyway, to cut a long story short - I have lost my Pulsar II software disk with the drivers on.

I suppose I should ask:
1: If XP didn't recognise new hardware when I inserted the card - is my card not working?
2: As important - how do I get hold of a new software disk please?

Hope someone can shed some light on this and tell me how to get a replacement software disk.

A very distraught Neil B

Sorry to be ignorant Gary, but I'm stressed !!!

So I can simply download the Pulsar2.inf file from the Sonic Core site?

If so, will look in the morning.
Thanks for the prompt reply

All the software you need is here:

All you need is your key-file.

As far as I remember, you should be able to run software versions up to 4 (or 4.5?) with the old keys. Otherwise, I have back-ups of software back to 2.04. Page me, if you need it.
Information for new readers: A forum member named Braincell is known for spreading lies and malicious information without even knowing the basics of, what he is talking about. If noone responds to him, it is because he is ignored.

Hiya guys
A good sleep has helped.

Sorry if I wound you up Gary.
I was following my orig installation booklet from 2001 (?) pages 12 & 14 re installing the hardware & driver.

After your replies (and a good sleep), I had a look on my backup drive (I'm OCD about weekly backups) and of course I've found the pulsar.inf file in devices Win 9x in my current version

Other replies - I'm fine thanks - I have all updates since version 3 up to 4.5. I even have version 5 which I purchased but never got around to installing (don't shout at me)

So now, I have definitely got a graphics card not working properly.
The Pulsar II card wasn't recognised when I tried to install it (I'll see if things improve when I install the .inf file)
So I'm hoping the Pulsar II card is okay. If not I'm in a mess.

Thanks again

Well, I had another go at rebuilding my music rig today, but the PS2 mouse port packed up.
After the screen threw a wobbler as well, and I can't get dual monitoring back, I guessed it must be the motherboard.
Using a USB mouse I tried to install the Pulsar 2 card again. XP didn't tell me that new hardware had been found. Tried to install new hardware the long way around, selected the Pulsar 2 inf file.
The system told me I'd selected Creamware (Gmbh) Pulsar 2, so that was positive. But then it said unable to recognise it and install it.
Suspect PCI slot, PS2 ports and Graphics slots all dying.
Went to my computer shop. He thinks the same. I took my Pulsar 2 card with me and he had only a quick look. Said, no shorts or broken circuitry, no burnt bits so it could be okay.

As it stands then, I can't do anything until I have a new pc.
I'll close this post, thanking you for your help, but I'm going to open a new post in off topic called "until I get X-ited".
I'll link from this once I've posted it.

Update:

I know why my install disk was missing:
No disk drives (as opposed to CD/DVD RW drive) so it was obsolete anyway.

So,
I've ordered a new pc:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =FS-192-OP
but with 16Gb ram & 2 X 1TB hard drives and a couple of other changes. Didn't bother with the SSD
I've seen it in action & it's lovely. Designed in collaboration between the techies at the Academy of Sound Music store & overclockers computers, especially for music rigs.
I'll be ordering Cubase 7.5 too when I get back off holiday.

Should be a bit quicker than my old Pentium 4 3.6 with 4 Gb Ram & XP. It'll just mean a couple of holidays less next year

Hopefully the Pulsar 2 card is okay, but just in case, I've got hold of a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 with midi in/out & audio in/out. Got it for a song. And it'll do as a backup if my Pulsar 2 is dead (or dies in the future) and until I can afford Xite. If the card is okay I'll get Scope 5.1 & Mod IV

Thanks for your help.
See you all in the New Year

To save some mony you could think of Cubase Artist 7, almost the same as the full version, but half as cheap or better.
Only restriction: ASIO channels are only up to 10 mono plus 10 stereo, or any combination of the two within limitations border.
Good luck with your new setup :)

I think in the grand scheme of things, the difference isn't that great.
The 4.5 to 7.5 upgrade is about £250, and I normally use more asios than that but thanks for the tip Huub

I'm thinking of taking the Logic step, for the #Asio channels at least.
