DIY Room Acoustics

Post by quantum »

If you had to make a 6"x24"x48" bass trap for an 11x18ft room and the cheapest decent option would be to only buy these Ready Bags and Acoustic Frames from Ready Acoustics, and supply your own Green Glue, rubber Dynamat, Knauf Ecose 1"/2" and Owens Corning 703/705/FRK 1"/2"/4". How would you construct the traps in terms of layers? Would you sandwich 2" OC703/705 between 2" Ecose, or do full 6" of 703 or 705 or Ecose? Or 2" 703/705 between 2" Ecose? Other options could also include using Green Glue/mass loaded vinyl between layers of Ecose or 703/705.

Here is a great site for soundproofing materials: http://www.soundproofingamerica.us/products/

I am not expert but I have read that 703 and 706 should be used for diffusers only unless there 6" to 8" deep. Make super chunks with Roxul safe and sound it's very cheap I think only $35 a bag from lowes supply. see this tread http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32233

Actaully never mind. I decided down to 2 options:

1. Twenty 6-packs of 2" Knauf Ecose, custom thin wood frames, and Guilford of Maine fabric. = ~ $3000

VS

2. GIK Acoustics = ~ $5000
