Glitch Vocals
Glitch Vocals
I'm trying to figure out how to create glitch vocals in a Tech House sort of way.
I'm using Kontakt 3 to trigger the loops, but I'm not getting very far.
I don't really mind if I use Kontakt, Cubase or Scope effects where required, but at the moment my ageing brain is on bypass.
Anyone got any tips please?

Re: Glitch Vocals
Unfortunately not for Scope or Kontakt.
This by far is the best I've used though in Reason :

Re: Glitch Vocals
Hmm - I get the idea and it gives me an idea to try a few things with Recycle.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Glitch Vocals
On scope platform, flexor granular tools can do it and more, also going to the outside world:

also this one is good

or even free ones

Re: Glitch Vocals
Thanks Sal,
I am going to try to grow a brain and do this centurty style music.
If I have any luck I will advance with better plugs.
Here's to the new ways..

Re: Glitch Vocals
Thanks for the replies and the time you've taken to look into them for me.
I can't seem to visualise all your links in the context I was thinking about (ARC - age related confusion
)
Perhaps I'll post a snippet of what I'm trying to achieve

Re: Glitch Vocals
Yes, I remember when loops just used to be loops and us 60's generation could ignore them because we could play real instruments. But now the integration, sophistication and proliferation of genres like Dubstep in super action movies and nightclubs threaten to leave us oldie in the dust unless we adapt.
Theres a lot to learn with these Kaos Omni RMX Dub Juggernauts.
And be prepared to spend a LOT of time in the controller and CC trenches !!!

Leave the BS to the youngsters,- I prefer playing over programming.
When I read "glitch-vocals" I think of all the failing singers I´ve seen in the past decades.

Bud

a good reason to adopt the real glitches

Re: Glitch Vocals
people trend is to have a ready to use box that does a specific task, but if you understand how the audio flow is processed, then you can do your custom processing, glitch, granular, chaos or whatever you want.
Modular stuff is unexplored by most of the customers, because of that.

Re: Glitch Vocals
Retire not an option for me. I intend to learn as much as possible about new electro genres, playing and programming. There is some really good, creative stuff out there and if anyone here on Z is interested in making a new electro forum then I'm there !Bud Weiser wrote:or retire ...dante wrote:Yes, I remember when loops just used to be loops and us 60's generation could ignore them because we could play real instruments. And I've been having a load of good ideas for electro devices in a Scope.
Re: Glitch Vocals
I've snipped a couple of example loops together here:
https://soundcloud.com/neil-buxton/glitch-vocals-1
This gives a reasonable example of what I'm trying to achieve, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be really grateful.
I'm sure the technique is quite easy & both Cubase & Scope will have the tools to do it (suspect gating the volume to zero, but how do I do that?)
Thanks

Re: Glitch Vocals
Neil this sounds like a gated effect to me! But then I am not a musician just a programmerNeil B wrote:I've snipped a couple of example loops together here:

Re: Glitch Vocals
Yeh I'm thinking gated, with delay & reverb too, but it's how to achieve the gated effect.
It was a pain in the backside to do it manually by drawing volume levels into the audio file in Cubase.
I cut the file into 16ths & hoped to do something that way too, but again it's a pain. I gave up.
Another idea was to use a side chain compressor from, say, a kick drum loop set to pre-fade so that the volume can be turned down on the kick drum. I'm sure that that is another option, but not the right one - because in a sense it's the opposite of a pumping sound used in modern dance tracks, so the kick would have to be off the beat (starting to ramble and think aloud).
Using a noise gate or gating is a technique that I've not used at all, so really that sums up the question - how do I do this & what do I use?. What do I dial in to a noise gate? Is it side-chained from anything? Does a square wave come into it somewhere to shut the volumes off?
I'm probably thinking too deeply and missing what is potentially a simple solution.
It also seems that there is an element of retriggering of the sample going on in there too, although I may be wrong.
So having established that it's gating - what do I do next?
Thanks for everyone's contributions so far by the way.
Walk me through the solution & I'll buy you a drink next time I'm in your area
or at the very least you can accept a virtual drink off me

Re: Glitch Vocals
imho you can copy-paste those 'dynamics' edits...actually on/off something.
Re: Glitch Vocals
With "drawing" in Cubase? Yes you can but I gave up before then (ran out of time)hubird wrote:imho you can copy-paste those 'dynamics' edits...actually on/off something.
tonight's attempt sees me using Chopper in Cubase with a sine wave setting at 1/16th and depth 100, using a straight forward Aaah sample in Kontakt. Progress, but I'm now stuck with 16ths, but it's a start. So, it comes back to my idea of using a side chain somehow based on the rhythm I want, not a straight 16ths or whatever.
That's enough for one evening - the one who must be obeyed beckons & I can't refuse her

Re: Glitch Vocals
What you want is a Trance gate ! Do a search. The LFO is your friend! I think It was Camel fat that has a great gate maybe check that out! You could also side chain a muted drum sound to your vocals and then add some delay reverb.
So now send me some virtual beer so I can get virtually drunk in my virtual scope studio!

Re: Glitch Vocals
Try this unusual beer from the Isle of Skye.
Only made in limited numbers twice per year and brewed in casks that have been previously used for peaty whisky.
Cheers

Re: Glitch Vocals
I picked up this trance gate - BUT DON'T DOWNLOAD IT - IT HAS CRASHED MY XP MUSIC RIG AND I CAN'T REBOOT
http://www.vstplanet.com/News/12/T-Forc ... e_Gate.htm
Will try it properly later
I'd love to recreate something like this in Scope so the step sequencer in Modular should be the starting point.
I'll also try the step sequencer in Kontakt 3.
As I said, I'd like to be able to recreate these sounds and not just use someone else's plug in.
Thanks helpers
