Push
Push
I'm strangely attracted to this new beast from Ableton:
https://www.ableton.com/en/push/
I'm hoping that it will let my ideas flow more easily, but having burned my hands on one controller already (Novation RemoteZero SL) which I hardly use, I'm trying to control my urge here. I also find the price a bit steep for what you get - a controller.
So are there any hands on opions out there/in here - Is it all hype or is Push worth the price they are asking?
Cheers,
Thomas

Re: Push
If you have an iPad then check out the "Shove" project on Lemur app.

Obviously you need to get Lemur app to use this, and I am sure it doesn't have quite the same feel as a real Push, but a great project for Lemur all the same, and that is just one out of loads of others for all sorts of gear, including some i have seen for Scope devices, plus you can build your own projects or modules. Well worth getting Lemur if you already have an iPad.

Re: Push
I have tried the "Shove" app. well, at least loaded and poked around.
It is worth getting if you have an iPad and Lemur...you won't get the "feel", but you will get the flow, and intuition about how it generally works.
I don't have a real opinion yet on either.

Re: Push
I am also looking at various new mthods of controlling things.
The Smithson Martin Emulator Elite has my attention.
They actually sent me a badge for NAMM and invite to a special demonstration.
I'm quite sure many people recieved the same invites.
But I have been following them for years and still have never purchased anything
as it was more DJ orientated, but this new software and touchscreen supposedly allows one to create the app and tweak it the way that best suites the users workflow.
Plus it just looks really cool.
I am dreaming of this on a 15" Getac with Night Vision...
I hope we all get what we seek.

I have an iPad and I have tried out the app Shove, which I found so surprisingly inspiring that I began to want the real thing

Re: Push
I have Push its different!.. keep reaching for my APC-40. So I have just started this tutorial https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/30-days ... -learning/
it's starting to grow on me it's unconventional with a lot of happy mistakes so far.

Re: Push
I bought a Push quite recently. Still getting my head around it, as it has a huge amount of possibilities. Mostly I've been focusing on the drum step sequencer and Device control, which hooks very neatly into Max for Live. So far I'm pretty pleased, but still consider myself a bit of an Ableton noob, so there's lots for me to learn.
Worth having a read of the Push section of this review: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar13/a ... /live9.htm

Thought this might be a useful link for things Push related, well worth checking out Will and anyone else

Yes, I'm a gear slut, and I'm proud!
Re: Push
Thanks - I am having fun with it.
It is definitely far closer to what I've been looking for than anything else I've seen out there.
I still have so much to explore, but everything looks very promising

Re: Push
Even though I still have to get used to the "feel" of playing Push, I find the scales mode very inspiring.
Regret mode still on hold...

Re: Push
This thing is flowing!
I have now had Push for a week and I have to admit that it seems to be capable of doing exactly what I want it to do, unleash creative potential by making essential features and parameters easily available.
I'm also beginning to get a good feel about the buttons/pads. I'm primarily a keyboardist, so at first the buttons didn't "feel right", but now that I have been letting my fingers have it's way with Push's buttons, they are really starting to make sense to me in their own right. Exactly like a new instrument would once you get to know it.
Put these two things together and inspiration starts flowing in a good way

Re: Push
These days it seems it's PUSH vs. Maschine at gigs for Live (sic) performance...
I've got a PUSH and APC40, I use them both along with Ableton as I feel they overlap somewhat but have really different workflows. PUSH enables me to get sounds up and 'perform' them in a way the APC has no clue about, but for global navigation & older HUI/Mackie/LC 'mix' style control the APC40 wins hands down. So I tend to have the PUSH focused for sound selection & sequencing/performing while the APC40 lets me 'mix' and change clips for the overall performance at the same time.
In the studio Live with PUSH & APC40 becomes a glorified sampler: manipulating Live on the laptop synced to Logic on the desktop via midi triggering things from Logic, tweak Live on the fly along with my main composition & record bits down). It's a different workflow than most who rewire, bounce or stay right in Ableton but it satisfied my need for a newer sampler than what I had around v3 of Live, and has been used that way since.
I use LIVE "live" with Serato in the 'Bridge" mode running on a Rane 64 (or SL-4 but I prefer the full mixer), the APC40 triggers clips & tweaks FX while the Push lets me manipulate existing loops on the fly.
I also use the PUSH + APC40 when doing Visuals, using Ableton Live standalone on the laptop to control a Win7 PC with a strong GPU running Resolume or Touchdesigner Pro (just learning this). Before the 9.1 beta I was having to use Max4Live tools to enable step sequencing with Push, but now non-drum rack midi control gives you step sequencing or the original chromatic control mode, which means I can trigger patterns on the APC40 (clips) and then adjust/tweak on the fly.
On the PUSH pads: I actually prefer them to my MPD32, even with 'cork modded' pads from MPCStuff.com
On chromatic sequencing: don't use this enough to consider myself 'performance worthy' outside of the studio, and honestly with the amount of controls & keys I have jammed into my small workspace I really haven't explored this fully.
