SC Six-String
Testing the SC Six-Sting
I thing this is a great Physical Mod synth!
I was just rambling away:
1/ Little Bach piece
2/ Stairway to H
In the last I 'm going through some pre-sets.

Re: SC Six-String
Nice.
I tested a demo of six-string once and I really liked it, but I have always thought that its to expensive.
But now I got Korg Kronos that have STR-1, Physical modeling sound engine, similar to six-string.

Re: SC Six-String
Good to see Six-String get some love. Very under-exposed and somewhat underrated plugin that's the best of its kind imo. I love both 6-String and B2003 Organ and hope more Physical Modeled plugins are created for SCOPE in the future. Nice audio demo's Roland! You've stumbled on to a nice secret plugin
.

Re: SC Six-String
I have morphed velocity switching in Mind Control amde for Kontakt.
Six Sting gets 86-127 and Orange Tree Electric and Acoustic have the lower velocities, and the morphs are unnoticable.
Still think PhysMods strengths when used with samplers strengths are tough to beat.
Like Bach, but Stairway To Heaven harkens me back to Waynes World where the music store had a sign saying NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN above the Guitar racks.

Re: SC Six-String
For a better understanding,
I've the above isn't really my thing(except playing classical/contemporary on real flute/piano).
While recording, I met Wayne on his way to.... whatever
With the NMG2 I've build combi-models. Like strings, blown with a trombone mouthpiece.
Or a Karplus Didgeridoo

Re: SC Six-String
I m a guitarplayer, for me, this guitar is a toy, I would not spend any penny for this plasticsound! It could be a Synthesizer but NO GUITAR. I cant understand this plugin.

Re: SC Six-String
You should think of it as a Physical Mod synth, which is exactly what it is. A synth that uses "physical modeling" of strings to create sound.
Playing a real life guitar however involves a lot more, than just simulating strings, which is propably why this synth is not to much use for you, if guitar sound is what you want.

Re: SC Six-String
Yes, I agree with you Petal,
With this idea I started this topic and further down I explained (pseudo) KS synthesis with a little patch picture.
It is not a guitar synth but understandable because the guitar picture this mistake occurs.
The Modulars and Flexor have special modules to create this kind of synthesis.

Re: SC Six-String
That pseudo KS patch was made with a feedback loop.
To create a feed forward, have a look at this patch.
A digital Allpass filter:
(In my book Modular strategies in shaping reflections and space I explain these things)
These are NMG2 patches.
For some test examples with the Modular IV have a look here:

Re: SC Six-String
Cool, and I agree with anabella.
This harldy represents a real guitar, mixed with sampls though can get some nice tones.
Six String is best used for a representation of a great Karplus String sound, with additional options for ADSR and FX.
When you want a real Guitar, you use a real Guitar.
Nice patch RK. I really want to get Nord Modular again. I had the very first back in '98 and loved the sound quality, but after getting a Scope card, I forgot about it.
Looking back though I see lots and lots of support now, as back then is was babbling brooks w/ little support.
That will be my chore for 2013, get the rack mounted/desktop unit again as they are everywhere and dirt cheap.
What's th polyphony...?
I remember an EPianos sound on the original module that was awesome but sounded like polyphony back then was maybe 3 voices.

Re: SC Six-String
What support? Clavia discontinued the NMG1&2's and the EM forum is nearly dead on that topic.dawman wrote:Nice patch RK. I really want to get Nord Modular again. I had the very first back in '98 and loved the sound quality, but after getting a Scope card, I forgot about it.

But after my book Laboratory of Patching. Illustrated Compendium of Modular Synthesis, you need no patch support anymore.
I would go for the NMG2 rack version. You can't break much. Best programmed VA synth, regarding feedback and connectivity of different signals.
With a patch on 100% DSP load, 4 voices without extension card.dawman wrote:What's the polyphony...?

KS flute, with "Flatterzunge" with NMG2:

Re: SC Six-String
Thanks for the patches, funny how the "Z" has been responsible for reviving my Nord Modular interest
I have the G2 Extended (3 octave), and I think it's one of the best digital synths ever in terms of concept and usability... For the immediate patching-playing-controlling experience, it's above everything else I have tried, and it can sound pretty good too!
Why Clavia has decided to trash it instead of developing it into a highly integrated DSP synthesis machine, is beyond me. So many ways it could still be improved: sample memory, MIDI and audio over USB, VST/AU plugin for control, digital outputs...

I think a NMG3 is in the fridge until the factory has enough money to take a risk again.
ATM synths/keyboards for the masses.

Re: SC Six-String
Hopefully the Analog Revival we are seeing will bring some of those guys off the native development and back into hardware!
Re: SC Six-String
Found the old Modular for 600 USD haven't bought it yet but will check it out tonight.
I might have to come back here and ask some questions as it seems like it's in a Pawn Shop.
Hopefully there's some CDs and a way to connect it to verify it's working.

Re: SC Six-String
Make sure it's the G2 version, Jimmy... G1 is cool, but as far as I know, it doesn't share the same module set as the G2...
