Multiple Guitar Stand - Made it myself

Hi guys

It is said that "Rock Solid Stands" is one of the best trademarks for stands, and that they are..., well..., rock solid! But I made one myself that I think it is even stronguer than theirs...

I first built an idea in my imagination, then looked and found someone who did pretty much what I wanted to do, so I used his work as a starting point. This is what he did:



Well, this is the one I made today, which is for four guitars. As you can see, the separation between the instruments is wider than most people tend to use in their stands. This is for two reasons, the first: because I want to be able to take the instrument and play immediately and then immediately be able to put it back into the stand, without standing up myself, and without taking so much care in the process. The second: because I will not have many instruments anyway.

I made the stand because I will be having soon, two more guitars for a project, another electric and an acoustic, but I will not go farther than 4 instruments anyway.

This extra space gives you piece of mind if you think about earthquakes and I have big hands.

The two bars that cross the stand onto which the instrument lies, are covered with velvet and inside there is a fair amount of foam rubber, and at the top where the necks of the instruments lie is covered with pure rubber, so it is very soft, you can put the instrument there been sure that it will not be damaged in any way. The stand itself is made of wood, and both legs are rather heavy, so to assure stability. Down at the bottom, the legs have some pieces of carpet gummed to it so it will be soft when I move it around with the instruments on it.

Yeah..., I know, I am someone that can get happy with really simple things...

Good, any thought to an invention that would let you leave them all plugged in ? eg so just pick and play - not pick, plug and play.

Well, this is exactly what I'm talking about, so do the same that I did, build a stand with wide open spaces between the instruments so you keep them plugged forever. The only danger with this is that you may eventually get entangled with the cables, but if you know what you are doing and how to move in your space, this will not happen to you.

Because of my work, I need to go fast and play at any moment for a short while and then get it back, that is why I say "I don't even want to get up to get the instruments, I want everything ready to play all the time". Look at picture *3 again, and you will see that there is enough space to hold them there, even with cables:

I was thinking more along the lines of having four jack leads coming out of the stand itself (bottom strut) connected to inputs on recording or mixing system.

Then having tension wound leads coming from inside the bottom bar to each guitar.

Mmmmm, that's interesting... it could even be a commercial idea, not kidding, very nice. In that case, you could use this kind of coiled cables:

Could be commercial but only if manufacturing process was simple enough not to push the retail price too close to an RF transmit/receiver.

naw, you want a reel like a retracting ac cord on a vacuum cleaner.

or, you could just use the stand as a stand and swap cables as needed. buncha Rick Neilsens...

That is very nice Nestor. Some people say air will corrode the strings faster but I'm not sure if that's true.

That's true Brain, strings tend to corrode faster if they are out of their cases. If you are in front of the see, that's a real problem..., if you live in a humid area you are in trouble, no matter what you do to keep them clean.

I use machine oil to "prevent" guitar and bass strings from rusting, and then I sweep them now and then and that works very well.

Now, if I'm into a project, I don't care about the strings, just the music, then I change the strings and that's all.
