workshop in transwave synthesis in making and creating patch

Post by jhulk »

https://www.facebook.com/groups/552524268147339/

i started a workshop group for this type of synthesis if there are any asr10 eps16+ ts10 ts12 asr-x

users who want to get there hands dirty they are welcome to join

it will teach how to get ideas for a wave-table and how to get the source material by cutting single cycle waves which can also be used in vectron

and sample osc

and how to construct a scannable wave-table using payed for and free tools

and when we mortals get hold of sdk6 so that we can add a wavetable scanning module for use with these audio rate scannable tables

Even though I am a bystander in tech savvy matters, this is excellent news.
Thanks for the devotion and pushing the envelope further.
Vectron with custom waves is really a great instrument.

here is the first of the workshop example patches from 2 trans-wave cz101 morph tables

thanks for the comment dawman

this is how fm can be created on an asr10

on the asr10 there are some special loop function transwaves one which makes the sample jump to the next loop position set by the loop amount if set to 512 every time it jumps it will be the next 512 portion of the sample

now the fm loop algo is a special pitch algo its called loopstart-x now this uses just a single cycle sample
it starts at say 512 samples loop then the loop modulator makes moves the loop start but keeps the loop end so the loop gets smaller and smaller set by the range amount the pitch algo keeps the pitch the same

this creates higher pitched overtones but in the same pitch root key

a wavetable single cycle module like the scope wavetable module but with this type of loopstart x

would make an extremly useful module as you can get different type sounds by which single cycle sample you use

roland you have sdk6 would love to see some thing like this implimented from a 1991 synth sampler

working on the workshop showing how different modulators can effect the transwave

here is the mod wheel modulating a pwm transwave

working on the workshop with others learning how different modulators can change a transwave

this time noise was used which acts like a sample and hold

this time we are using the pitch env1 to modulate the transwave

this env1 is set to the envelope preset of full on so all the setting are a full rate because of this it only plays the last single cycle sample looped but when the key is released it scans the transwave until it reaches the first single cycle and leaves looped on that

even though the work shops are about transwave synthesis for ensoniq samplers and synths

there is also a lot on general synthesis and how to layer and create patches with modulation sources

and how to sample as the asr10 is a very modular type sampler like the emu e4 range and the kurzweil k2000 and the later models with the modular vast software

it help with creating patches on modular synths and how things work by playing around

the synth workshop is free and any one can take part

in the future i will extend the workshop to include scope modular and synths in general and

making konytakt instruments with layers and scripting

im using a video capture program thats free that allows small video,s to be captured with audio from your computer screen as im doing a workshop and teaching how to do things i think this tool would be great for showing how to do modulations and create modular synths in a step by step way so that

we can learn from each other how we go about constructing our synths

the program is called jing

here is an example video of me making a scanning wave-table from robotic voice samples

http://www.screencast.com/users/jhulk/f ... 6a13b5c5b8

we could easily do the same with modular and i could add it to the workshop if people are interested

here is a neat little program that's

free that i use for making robotic voices and sayings

i then use audioterm

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

this thread explains how and why it was created it started as a ppg waveterm emulation for creating user wavetables in komplexor softsynth

https://soundcloud.com/cyclotron2010 this is the coder of audioterm

audioterm makes scanning wavetables and can be used by a number of vsti and hardware synths

vaz modular /komplexor/harmor and the single cycle waves can be used in many programs including vectron

i recommend down loading the program and analyzing some audio to make a table up that you can add to vectron

these are audio rate tables no interpolation going on because they are incremented or decremented via the loop modulation the loop is fixed so that each single cycle is the exact same length and start at zero crossing and end at zero crossings because they are additive spectra waves this makes for very expressive smooth transitions

and make great sounds because they are single cycle samples they dont suffer from munchkin-ism when played on higher key note because they only speed up in tone only unlike samples that speed up in speed and get faster and faster

they are also very small in size only 64k

https://soundcloud.com/jhulk/welcome-to ... -synthesis here is an example from the top espeak program and audioterm created trans-waves played on an asr10

this is a module we are lacking in scope modular and is available in many vsti and on the ensoniq samples for over 20+ years with wavetables you never run out of material as you can generate time after time new material

the scope modular sounds great and a user audio rate loop modulated wavetable sample module would be a great addition when us mere mortals get hold of sdk6 then we can add the atoms and code segments for this to happen any one from sonic core we would like to do this and many other modules for this great platform

and here is a trans-wave patch made from bc modular guru sharc,s single cycle waves from an oscar pwm sample

https://soundcloud.com/jhulk/oscarpwm-x ... v1-and-set

and one from his single cycle samples from a trancendent2000 diy synth from the 80,s

https://soundcloud.com/jhulk/transcedat2k-x-with-table

these wave-table files are only 64k but sound much longer
