Pulsar (1) and latency

Post by unaHm »

Dear all,

I've recently set up my first generation Pulsar card with two SRBs (4 DSPs). I've noticed that the lowest latency the ULLI settings will allow is 13ms. Is this because of the age of the card, or does the latency increase when other cards, such as the SRBs, are added to the system?

I'm not really using the DSPs at the moment, more just for the IO, so I wouldn't have a problem with removing the SRB cards if that was the solution to the issue.

Thanks!

no, that's the best a Pulsar1 does.

if you add a later card, Luna, Pulsar2 etc, you can go down to 3-4 ms with no problem.

Thanks for the response Gary!

So, I have the system set up with the Luna, SRB and the Pulsar, and I told the Scope software to use the Luna when it prompted me. I assume at this point that the Scope system then assigns the Luna card as the ASIO interface, and then the other cards will interface through it?

I've not poked around with it in depth yet, but it looks like I can route the ADAT inputs from the Pulsar card to the ASIO inputs of the Luna card. I imagine that if I could get an ADAT expansion board for the Luna (though that in itself seems like quite a feat at the moment), I could have 32 inputs and outputs, just through ADAT alone!

all ASIO ports will automaticly be visable in de main hardware menu, with the specific cards name mentioned :)

The connected cards operate as one system, without taking notice.
that's still worth a complement.

So, yes, Adat would be a very nice adjustion to your studio.
A lot of X-ite users I guess or said once they would like more Adat ports, and -tho not a user- so do I :)

In my system with one SRB expander, the Pulsar 1 goes all the way down to 3ms using ASIO, granted I start getting underruns in FL Studio, but for recording and playback only I never get a hickup. I have the professional verison of Scope 4.5 installed and XTC mode turned off.

I use to run Pulsar 1, Luna II and SRB at 3ms. Worst case scenario was 4ms. It took some fine tuning through my DAW also, which was Cubase SX back then. Check your DAW settings as well.
