Metasynth is the coolest new product on the market. It's nice to know that some people are able to come up with creative *new* ways to make music rather than simply rehashing what has already been done.

This ambient example was done with Metasynth and Iris. I have Iris and like it a lot. I'm am so f*cking tired of traditional synthesis:

A free program called Audio Paint which generates sound from images can be found here (Windows):

I tried audio paint and right away found it fun. No need to read the PDF like he said.

Re: Metasynth & Audio Paint
I checked out Metasynth a long time ago.
It was far too geeky for me to take the time just to warp around with audio.
I can do more with guitar pedals nowadays

Re: Metasynth & Audio Paint
I have Iris. It's a good way to isolate overtones. Very nice live pitch shifting. Sounds muffled though.
It's interesting that when you export a sound made from an image in Audio Paint and then import that sound into Iris, you can see the original image again (in a ghostly form).
