Dont have a fancy DSLR cam with HD recording (my old Canon 30D is not ready to be changed yet).. so my iPad3 has to do the job.

Mine changes looks everyday and gets smaller and smaller.
But since I am doing off property gigs now I can get pictures of the stage rig in action.
I'll even throw in a few Waittail Cocktresses....

This is my little studio, which doesn't see anywhere near enough love, but has been running a bit more recently to look at Sharc's new BC modules, which are great!

Main meat and veg...
Still using a spreadsheet for the patchbays ;-)

Some recent shots - I call it a High Rise studio cause the only build space is upwards.
I also call it the Toy Box, since it's in the corner of the kid's play room...

Cool,- Moog Minitaur ... !

Are you satisfied w/ it and does it work w/ 100 internal preset memory and MIDI Prg.-Changes since firmware v2 ?

Just asking because I´m interested in this little synth too.

I also have lot´s of these patchbays in my studio,- made sheets and wireing plans as usual, but because all changes all the time these rendered useless.
Now I wonder what´s the best application to make editable color coded wireing plans and connection-sheets on PC.
It also drives me nuts most cable lables became unreadable now, especially for these cables which are in racks since decades.

Yep, the Minitaur is a lovely synth. Yep, v2 firmware has 100 presets, accessible by program change messages. There's no doubting the amount the bass out of it! Thunderous! The overall timbre is kinda nasal - wasn't sure about it at first, but I've grown to enjoy its character. It's not very flexible in terms of sound design - no noise source, no PWM, limited modulation possibilities... What that means, for me at least, is that it's quick to set up new patches - bass parts rarely are complex, so I don't miss those modulation features, altho PWM would be nice... The Windows editor is a bit flakey -if you do pick one up and you can't seem to get the editor to work, PM me, I may have a workaround - one that worked for me at least. Midi spec is good, far better than the Lancet next to it. Has the old Minimoog trick for overdriving the filter by sending audio from the headphone jack into the audio input - and with the editor, you have access to the potentiometer that controls the level of the audio in, so you really can get some grunt from it. Having it there on the desk as a Moog filter, it is in effect like a basic Moogerfooger too. If you have any CV/gate possibilities, the three CV inputs and the Gate input can be routed to any synth parameter!! I don't have CV capabilities outside the box (yet - my Presonus Digimax FS isn't DC-coupled, so I'd need to do the rectifier circuit job as per the Silent Way trick..), but if you do have these capabilities, it's surely worth a second, or third, look. Of course, due to the Hz/V control voltages, the note range is from 0 to 72 (octave above middle C). So, this synth is a bass synth for more reasons than sound - it can't be anything but a bass synth! :-)

I suggest you pick one up in a shop that will let you return it, or get it second hand - it's a Moog, so you won't be out of pocket if you decide to sell it on.

As for a patchbay app - sounds like an easy thing to code up - wonder if there's an Excel or OpenOffice template for that? And cable labels - I picked up a set of labels that gardeners would use to label and stake their plants! Basically cable ties, with an attached longish plastic label that's easy to cut and that a normal permanent marker has no problems writing on. Works for me! And cheap as chips..

The Vermona Lancet is also a great little synth - more variety of sound, more oscillator shapes, full note range, and it definitely sounds more Moog'y than the Minitaur! Mine came with horrible tuning problems - I'm no synth fixer, but I've definitely improved the tuning by cracking it open and messing with the internal trimpots... Still it's not perfect, especially when the oscillators are tuned more than an octave apart...
NL2 - who doesn't know the NL2. And of course, my trusty Noah EX.
Oh and my basses and guitars! Can't ignore my oldest friends!

What you don't see in that shot is my Korg EX800. Gorgeous sounding synth! Editing it is a bit of a pain, but I think it is one seriously under-rated poly from the heyday of such synths in the early/mid 80s. There's not much in it that the Nord couldn't do, but it has 'that sound' that I associate more with the 80's than even something like a Juno...
Whomever says that it sounds thin does not know how to program it! Send it into a chunky fuzz pedal (like my Way Huge Swollen Pickle, which I think should adorn every studio), sit back, and listen to aggression!
I probably only use 5 or 6 patches from it, so I really should think about sampling it and moving it on (and put the proceeds towards an Ableton Push), but I still love it!

Btw, SpaceF has a Minitaur in his setup at the moment too! So I'm in good company! :-)

the minitaur has a lot of value for the money. It does only bass though, don't expect it to be able to do stuff that do not contains lots of subs :-).
It is analog, it sounds analog. it is moog. Now it is a bit different than a minimoog and is limited to bass. the oscillators are a bit different. So, it is moog, but it is not a minimoog.
Nice SG Eanna, i'm waiting for one too (brand shiny new 2013 standard (2*classic 57 mics) with min-etune awesomeness ;-)

NB: mintaur presets ? presets ? what is presets ? :-)
I wonder if that's useful at all, becausethere are few knobs. I have firmware v2 but haven't used it at all. the app is flakey.
The only thing i would like to achieve, is to switch it on without the "release" engaged.
for the rest, i could make a midi device with midi CC but i haven't had the time to look at that neither.

Yes Mehdi, all good. I'm the same re. presets - I did think - great, I can save state on one of these little analog boxes! I saved a few at the start, but now I barely use them! It's so quick to program something on it, mostly cause it is limited in what options you have...
I guess I rarely revisit work too... probably the same reason I never finish anything... :-O

What kinda behaviour did you have with the app? Is it crashing when you open it 'a second time' after first expanding the installer zip? I'll check what file in the installation you need to edit and make read-only for it to work... think it's called "lua.properties"....
It also does depend on your USB driver for the Minitaur being called "Minitaur" or "Minitaur Midi" or whatever - just not "Minitaur (1)"...
Don't forget the other functions in the app that aren't available on the front panel:
http://moogmusic.com/sites/default/file ... %203_1.jpg

For me tho, I definitely do wish there was a Switch on it!! Gear that doesn't have a Power button annoys me!
The Lancet's power button is called "Overkill" - a power button isn't overkill for me!

Btw, if you're looking for more Minimoog-style sounds, the Lancet is pretty decent. Just lacks on the CC department... if you did have any modular capability tho, the Lancet Modular Dock is a good solution to give it more sonic variety...

Yeah, the SG is a treat. Nothing too fancy there, Epiphone job, very playable tho!

the sg seems to be "the treat". eventhough, a telecaster one day may be (the mid-priced telecasters can be much better than the "standard")... After 25 years with a crap guitar, i decided to pay the extra for something decent... it is not the Angus Young sg though ;-) Now, I have to take guitar lessons again ;-)
I think I am done with synths and gear for a while.... unless John Bowen releases a mini-solaris desktop device with more knobs than lcds, that would be tempting.
Now i Try to make them in SDK. But I am rusted....

NB you reminded me of all those parameters on the Minitaur.... at the same time, do we really need them ? vel to cutoff may be.
I don't think i really used that app. Flakey: I think i confuse with Tetra vst editor which i never managed to make work properly (been a bit lazy with cabling though, buzy doing tracks, for a reason i can't explain :-o
