A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
It looks and sounds fine, but it is not what I'm experiencing here.
Which Live version are you running?
Did you use the envelope-function in clips to achieve this result?
And did you set up Live in any special way. I read about a trick involving "Midi Thinning" and editing an "Option.txt"-file.

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
first was with scope master, no sync.
this one with scope master, sync enabled.
no external midi gear, no "special" options. I seem to remember to have done something with quantizising regarding the effect you have, but cant recreate it...
I use live 8.2.something, iuse regulat midi CC automation, the regular line plus points envelope if u get me (as in not the draw option. if u use the draw option, be sure to disable the fixed grid) .

Here's what I'm getting:
Not exactly smooth...

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
Ok - I managed to get a better and actually decent result:
I achieved this by using Live's arrangement view automation.
A gained access to this through a combination of Live's External Instrument and Live's Midi effect rack's macro control panel, which enables me to assign 8 CC's (Without the need for M4L!):
Why this gives me a more smooth result than assigning cc's in Live's Clip envelopes, I have no idea.
Did you use the same method or did you use Clip envelopes?
Still when I look at your screenshot of the midi info, it seems like you have an even better resolution, or at least your midi monitor is updating at a higher frequency than mine?

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
If you use MidiOX to do the monitoring, it can show time-stamps of when it received the data. That might help see how much data is coming across at what time.

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
hey
i use standard live automation. as you see from the screenshot i went down to 20bpm as you have and tried the same sweep, my sweep was at 120bpm.
same smooth result. Did you experiment with quantisize on/off and other similar options?

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
Thanks for helping me out here!
But it is strange. I simply cannot get a good smooth result if I automate cc's through clip envelopes.
If I use the macro rack automation trick in the same live set I get a usable result.
If I use the M4L-cc-device I get a result similar to yours.
It makes no sense to me, and I'm out of things I can try out. My best hope right now is that Live 9 will "fix" this problem.

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
Has anyone tried the 64 bit beta of Ableton 8? I'm about to set up my new Scope PC with 64 bit everything. I've read on Ableton's board and gearslutz that there are noticeable performance improvements in this beta. Maybe midi is one of those improvements. I'll post how it works with Scope once I try it. That may be more than a month away though.

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 with Scope
Sadly, I can now confirm that the problems I've been experiencing in Live 8, not being able to make smooth envelope control of SC-devices are exactly the same in the new and eagerly anticipated Live 9.
I still can get smooth automation if I control CC's from the arrangement window, but I can't understand why I don't get the same result when I use envelopes in clips. Why the difference - It makes no sense!?

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 (and Live 9) with Scope
What ever the problem was, after a fresh install of windows 7, Scope and Live, I now have smooth envelopes
Get ready for some ACIIIIIIIIIID!!!!!!

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 (and Live 9) with Scope
VERY IMPORTANT! I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 (that also fixed my Ableton problems). NEVER update. Windows updates are only for internet security. They seem to do bad things to Ableton (particularly to the MIDI).

Re: Using Ableton Live 8 (and Live 9) with Scope
In case anybody uses a launchpad, this midi remote script adds (to the usual session, user1, user2, and mixer) step sequencer, device control, and now an instrument mode, with scales, keys, and more. No max4live needed.

The device mode works well with macros or racks, so you can get some control over scope devices. I have some tests to do with ctrlr, and see how that works as well.
