I reinstalled windows 8 on my SSD without ahci. It seems like much stable for music.
Cubase 5.5.3 works fine for few days now.
I don't dare to reinstall cubase 7 ! but I purchased it ! I must test again.
A new release is planed to the 18th of february.

Fair play for taking the plunge with a reinstall of Win8.
Glad you're happy with system stability and disk usage with Cubase 5 without ahci enabled.
I think you should consider raising an incident on Cubase 7 if you cannot find other Cubase 7 users experiencing similar problems, and especially if you cannot find anything in the release notes for the Feb 18th release around disk churn.
Possibly next time before installing Cubase 7, you should uninstall Cubase 5 (not sure how thorough their uninstaller is). And always use clean Cubase 7 projects for your first tests...
Yes the issue is known by steinberg on their forums, and it seems like there are more apple users than PC (like me) which know this pb but as it's not a little issue the next release (7.0.2) will not correct this point ...

Thanks for the info, is it a Cubase7 on Win8 problem only? Does Win7 suffer the same fate?
Is it some combination of hardware and Win8 that causes the problem, or does it happen in all instances of Win8?
For me it's a PC issue on windows 8 with cubase 7.
I have a win7 partition, I must make some tests to investigate.

Now I'm sure it's not a windows 8 problem but a cubase 7 problem ...
I tried to run a song on a partition windows 7 64 with cubase 7.0.1 , very light and simple project :
10 tracks without effect (no VST) and with or without ASIO Guard :
lucky cubase 5.5.3 works perfectly on windows 8 ...
I contacted Steinberg to have a 6.5 license to waiting for a cubase 7 release which run
