Hi planet z society!!!
I'm new to all this...so please...
I have an old Creamware Pulsar II with the scope 4. I'm planning to buy a new computer (that will suport 64 bit Architecture) and of course having the windows 7 with the cubase 5 (let's say).
I will would like to know if I need to expect for any problems with that, because of the 64 bit or may be the windows 7 ?
and if I do... what is the solution for all that.
and one more...
can I update to scope 5 and have it on the old Creamware pulsar II ?
thanks.
updating the hardware to 64 bit
Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
yes you can update your old card
as for 64bit
theres problems with the sample osc and the samplers
they were written for 32bit code
by creamware now dead
they dont work in 64bit as there is no bridge software to make them work
they need a rewrite of code prted to 64bits
i recomend keeping your old system upgrading to scope 5.1
and buying your new computer with an rme adat interface
then you will have your fast comp for win7 bigger ram for sampler softsynths ie kontakt
and then interface the scope card via its adats you can then use fx synths modular like a hardware module
thats what i do with my 2 systems

Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
thanks jhulk for the quick respon.
well , unfortunately I can not afford an rme right now ($$$$ ), and I have to Compromise.
as I understand from you, the only problem well be with the sample osc and the samplers, and if so, this is not the problem for me becuse my Concern is only for the dynamic plug-ins , and the main things like the communication with the Asio, the bit rate and And so on.
does it all should work?
thanks.

Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
To use 64-bit you will have to upgrade to Scope 5.1, there is no other option there, but it will work fine on a Pulsar2, except for what jhulk already mentioned (mainly non-functioning STS samplers).
Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
which happens to cost about as much as a used RME HDSP on eBay...
my choice would be the same as jhulk
it's much easier and more reliable to keep them separated.
I have a similiar setup with Scope in an old Siemens P4 3Ghz (80 Euro in perfect condition)
a lot of modern motherboards don't serve the PCI bus very well.
(and not a single one exceeds the specs of the old i815, i865 chipsets)
cheers, Tom

Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
Yeah. The only issue with 64bit and scope 5.1 is the samplers do not work.
So if you never intend to use them, then I see no reason why you can't go ahead and just get 5.1 update and install the card in a new windows 7 64 bit pc.
I'm still using 32bit win xp. the pc I use is ready for win7 64 bit. With a system hard drive ready to switch to. I personally don't see the advantages of 64bit. Especially as I myself don't wish to lose the samplers in scope nor the proteus x software I have.

thank you all...
Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
To avoid problems with your new computer and your Pulsar-card, check in with the specs on your new computer here, BEFORE you buy.

one last...
if I'm buying the new computer with the 64 bit arcitcture and I put the windows 7 with 32 bit.
does it all should work fine?
thanks.

Re: updating the hardware to 64 bit
That's almost what I have. I got a pc that came with win 7 64bit and obviously the hardware for it. But I unplugged the win 7 operating hd (to use when I finally decide to switch to 64bit) and have a winxp 32 bit os installed. ( I needed to flick a switch on the motherboard though so it worked with 32 bit, I can't remember exactly what it was, I've left a note inside the pc to remind me what to switch back when I re plug the win 7 64bit os hd in)avlon wrote:one last...
