Does anyone have an opinion on this? I asked Steinberg and was told "We do not have a preference with regard to Drive Indexing."
I have always turned it off but recently, after installing Cubase 6.5, a bunch of important Cubase plugin presets were missing and I noticed other people had this problem. I was thinking this might be related.
Maybe it does not matter so much in a modern computer which I have. I will be putting my current songs on an SSD drive which reads at 250 megabytes per second (I tested this). My plugins, some with huge sample banks will be on a Western Digital Caviar (not my C: drive). I have 32 gigabytes of RAM.
Drive Indexing On or Off?
Re: Drive Indexing On or Off?
I always thought that disk indexing was for fast search results.
I've turned it off because of because of the usual audio processes, but every now and then I turn it on for a night.

Re: Drive Indexing On or Off?
not needed...
Re: Drive Indexing On or Off?
@gary Do you mean indexing is not needed or turning it off is not needed? I suppose it doesn't make a huge difference from the email they sent me.
My theory is that turning off indexing is causing the problem with the Cubase database as some people reported it working after they did a fresh install of windows.

Re: Drive Indexing On or Off?
just leave it alone.
it shouldn't matter either way, though.
