Problems with Win7 and Intel DG965SS

Post by artisonore »

Hello to all, even if I have not actively participated in, I have always followed your interesting discussions that have often helped me to solve many small problems.
But now I have one that is very specific to my setup and I hope you can help me. I have a Creamware card bought in 2000 (SCOPE FP 15 processors) that I have used successfully with XP Professional 32 on a mobo chipset Intel P965 Socket 775 LGA DG965SS with Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2200MHz.
Now, having to switch to Cubase 7, I installed Win7 64 bit SCOPE 05.01.2709 and started the problems. STS samplers do not work (I knew that already), but what's worse are the cracle and audio dropouts. I read something about the IRQ, but I do not know how I can control what is shared. Can you suggest something?
Finally (sorry for the length of the post), being the motherboard with dual channel technology, even if I installed 4 banks of 2G, the system detects only 6G total (probably a problem specific to this motherboard), so I would buy another mobo with the same socket to use the same processor, but with more RAM slots, so I can use it completely. Can you suggest something?
Sorry again for the length and thanks in advance.

i don't think that most socket 775 chipsets allow much more than 6-8gb of ram, which is plenty for all but the biggest sample sets.

do the setup tweaks here, and tell me if there are any devices sharing an irq with the card(exact name).

Thank you for your attention garyb. I discovered that the SCOPE shared IRQ (21) with a USB port so I disabled it and everything is back to work wonderfully.

As for the motherboard, actually you're right, but I would like to take advantage of all that I have installed 8 GB instead of 6. I would try another mobo, because I think it is a problem of the Intel P965, but it is not absolutely necessary.
If I wanted to switch to a i5/i7 with PCI Scope, which configuration would you advise me? Thanks again

socket 775, 1366 and 1156 as well as AMD are confirmed to work.

there is a post with a user reproting very nice results with the Gigabyte GA-P75.

if he can confirm his excellent results in actual use, it is a winner.
