RMX160 reverb does not keep midi assignements

Post by ARCADIOS »

is there a way to fix it? I cannot manage to save the midi controller assignments to RMX160 functions. the settings work when I set them but cannot be saved to the project :-? :-?

nonsense.

make a midi preset, close the project.
open the project, load the midi preset.

for some reason it does not work if I save the midi preset in rmx160 or save a midi preset at multiFx module that has the rmx160 loaded inside.

actually, midi can't be assigned to the rmx160 knobs of buttons here. then again, why would this be needed for such a simple device? there's no realtime modulation intended for that type of device, nor for the original. but you are correct, the only way to automate controls is with the multi fx(since the rmx has no midi inputs) and presets don't work. i'm thinking that the ability to recall such settings was simply never intended.

actually you can assign the knobs if loaded in a mixer as well. the presets are not remembered. the assignments just work at the time you assign them. When you reload scope...... ups... gone!!

Anyway since I couldn't make it this way, I did a more deep search of the RMX160.
What I did is to have it in a mixer channel dedicated for effects... and some functions of the RMX160 like modulation and EQ and delays I keep them at 0(like bypassed), so to use other more advanced modules for the work.
For example, It is very nice to have a scope SC-EQ after the RMX160(make sure that rmx160 eq is flat in that case) and create the sound and character of the verb you like.

Maybe there is something different than automation that could make sense with MIDI: remote control from external hardware.
Not meant to have any automation but could be useful to map real knob to virtual knob ...

it's a pretty simple device.

there's no realtime modulation of settings that are useable or make sense for it.

turning knobs from external controllers IS automation.

Ok, we do not understand Automation in the same way, but it doesn't really matter ... :)

For me automation is more about changing a parameter in realtime during the use of a device, so for example while playing and/or recording with it.

What I was thinking about was more about "remote controling" the device before using it while setting up the rig to adjust parameters without the need to use the mouse. I always prefer turning a "real" knob rather than using a mouse to do so.

But as you said it was not thought for such use when designed ... that's all.
