A16 Ultra Mk 1 power supply

Post by fraz »

Hi,

I got the Sonic Core A16 Ultra Mk 1 hooked up with Z-link on Xite-1. The power supply unit is the european 2 pin type. I'm in the UK-and have got a euro to uk travel adapter which has allowed me to plug in to the mains but I'm wary of whether or not this is safe.

To start off with I just wanted to get a signal in which I've done but now wander the safety of the setup for proper use for several hours. The transformer had a bit of a smell to it when I got close-as in nose up to plug close but like I said I'm being cautious.

I do have another 12 V adapter but its for a Yamaha keyboard or similar so in theory should work but hasn't as it makes an interfearance of some sort-please explain.

Whats my best option for this mk 1 A16 for power in UK? - Quite important this as we're dealing with electricity.....

i believe the A16 Ultra requires a 12V AC, that is AC, power supply. the Yamaha supply is 12V DC. DC and AC are not the same.

the ultra also needs a 2.5amp power supply, which is quite big.

afaik, if you are using a Euro power supply, all you need is an adaptor for the contacts, NOT a transformer, since both the Continent and the UK use 220-240v mains.

I've noticed on the 2 pin plug of mk 1 the writing says 2.5 A - The Mk 1 on back of unit says 1.5 A (mk 2 is 3 A)-

I may just need to put the transformer on the floor (flat) instead of on wall as there is a bit of weight in it pulling it downwards on the 2 pins on an angle. The adapter I got was from a catalog shop (Argos)! - The power goes in and it works with the transformer it was supplied with from S|C and my little adapter for the contacts (as you referred to them).

It seems then on the face of it it will be safe enough???? (I'm looking for re-assurance.... :) ) I just got a bit worried that the transformer may melt or worse.....when there was a whiff------maybe that was newness......?

220-240v is 220-240v is 220-240 volt.

it should be plenty safe. it would definitely be a good idea to use a short extension cable to get the wart off the wall.

I've put some extensions on the wall to get the plugs off the floor.... .....but this ones special....!

Now have this one on the floor on its own extension-

AC - Alternating current - 220 v to 240 v here in UK from the wall-and its the same for mainland europe too is it??? -

My studio (if you can call it that is a home one) - To be able to knock some tunes together-What gets me is even an average amatuer/hoobyist like me (even) if its on the serious side of hobbyist needs to know alot of stuff to work with this equipment. Everything I've been doing recently is the studio side of things and nothing to do with music but organising "the room" - which to be honest has pushed me mentally-but as always with this alot has been learned-amidst all of the confusion when it all gets a bit too much-hence clearing the mind for the next tasks which are-

1). fitting the acoustic treatments once the remainder of the Auralex has been delivered-including the "temp tabs" so I don't have to apply glue to all the treatments

2). Organise the remainder of the audio connections that will be used to begin with-and the MIDI side too.

Then I'll see......... :) end of post.....till the next one........ :)
