Hi,

Looking to get some leads for the Scope Pro snake cable attachment - The digital in on this snake is AES/EBU (compared to coaxial/spdif on Pulsar 2)

What is the correct lead for me to get to utilise this connection? - I was thinking XLR on one end but is this completely incorrect?

I've never used this type of connection before so much advice needed - thanks....

aes/ebu and sp/dif are the same signal. the difference is:
1. aes/ebu is balanced pin 2 hot, pin 3 neg, pin 1 ground. sp/dif is unbalanced. tip hot, sleeve negative+ ground combined.
2. aes/ebu is a MUCH hotter signal, +4 as opposed to -10 or -20.

you CAN just use an adaptor from xlr to rca and it will usually work, but the proper way would be to use a box that converted the balanced pro level signal to the unbalanced consumer level signal. something like this:

OK so there are two options 1. an adapter 2. one of those coax boxes -

The coax box is powered though isn't it? - There was a mention of included power supply

yes, it's a level matching amp. the box IS the way to go, but as i said, the adaptor will probably work depending on what is connected to what. basically, the sp/dif end's output level will be low and the aes/ebu's level will be HOT.

For the L/R out & L/R in I've found these cables:

I've only got one set of what you would call a good speakers/monitors Yamaha MSP5 and there is an option to coneect with XLR or TRS at the speaker itself.

The digital cables I've got are coax and optical but neither will connect with the Scope Pro or Xite-1-

OK Gary I'll look into this box. There is still some confusion. I'll need digital leads. On the Pulsar 2 I've got coax and also optical to put into the ADAT VC-8. I'm not familiar with the leads I will need but did see something AES/EBU for digital transmssion on one of the sites I was on. Is this the type I'll definitely need?

Just need to be really careful I don't get the wrong ones...... .......

Gary,- is that box nothing else than a level matching amp or does it more than that ?

I´m asking because I own a Fostex 5080 line amplifier which does exactly the same (for my Fostex R8 reel-to-reel and consumer CD /DAT etc.),- matching unbalanced/ balanced levels -10dB and +4dB in both directions and for 8 channels.
I patched it between a unbalanced (1/4" TS) and balanced (1/4" TRS) patchbay and it´s originally made for analog signals,- but now I wonder if I could use it to go from 15DSP Classic PCI card SPDIF into XITE-1 AES/EBU ... (?)

Maybe, the patchbay in between isn´t a good idea then, but I could separate one of the Fostex 5080 channels and wire directly.

Stupid question: Which cable ?
75 Ohms for both SPDIF and AES/EBU or 75 Ohms SPDIF only and standard mic cable for AES/EBU ?

Hello Gary, I've sourced two of these units on Ebay so yes I'll need the coax into the AES or the optical into the AES depending - These units are quite hard to find in the UK----

The AES cables I can get from Studiospares so no problems there -

Yep got a number of cables etc... on the way so that should be enough for now to get things up n running.....with 2 systems hooked up with system link.....thanks for the pointers/advice.....
