Open Scope / Free Win 7 Driver ??

Post by Mr. (((()))) »

Will Open Scope be released? I didn't find anything about that on the soniccore website today. Will Open Scope give me a free Win 7 Driver for my old Luna II Card? Without paying 160 € for an Update?

if you want the driver, it's in the installer that anyone can download from the S|C site.

the card won't do anything without a super sophisticated program that also must work in windows 7. that part isn't free. perhaps if S|C had made those cards it would be. i'm just glad that the cards weren't abandoned and left as orphans.

windows 7 isn't free for xp users. cubase 6 isn't free for cubase 5 users and both of those products are still made by the same company that made the previous version...

the driver is free as a bird.
it's useless by itself.

maybe it is useful to run older cards with older scope versions on 7?

I did read somewhere that scope v5 can run on the same os with scope v4, but not tried it.

the v5.1 driver does NOT work with v4 or older.

v4 or older will NOT run in windows 7.

[serious rant mode]why do you think all this work had to be done? i REALLY don't get the cheap, whiney people who want to use their card wihich was made by a company that no longer exists, and when their wishes are answered by a company that never profited from the original sale and then put a hell of a lot of money out to make software and drivers to keep those old cards running for years more, who don't jump up and down in excitement, saying "thank you!!" and opening up thier pocketbook. in the mean time, these same guys spend actual CASH for a new os that isn't even really necessary(though it is nice).[/serious rant mode]

prob not going to spend 159 euro to upgrade a card you're asking 90 euro for eh?
I've got a Unitor 8 and an AMT 8 on my rack. I guess I should be whining to Apple about free Windows 7 drivers since they bought out emagic that way I can go and spend 139$ on a new operating system.
Personally, I'm just happy that they still work with XP and I will save my money and spend it on some new Sonic Core plugs.

Sell the card or buy the update.

Even if Open Scope doesnt come till next year v5.x is worth at least double the price just as a bridge till then. I'm looking about the same or more $ to upgrade Cubase from 5.0 to 6.5 and it wont have a fraction of the value for money that S|C offer.

And buy the time Open Scope comes Steinborg will have thier hand out again for hundreds of dollars for maybe one or two upgraded features, which is about as exciting as paying rent after the landlord finally got the leaky faucets fixed. On the other hand Open Scope will be a revolution. No bets where my money will go first.

Well it will be interesting to see if Parseq has enough to draw everyone from their favorite DAW platform. Hopefully it will be a no brainer like buying the Xite-1 and just figuring out how to come up with the cash.

i just read a mail i received from S|C some months ago, where i misunderstood this point about v4.5 on win 7 with the same driver of v 5.1, but i'm not taking it personal, because i still run 2 pc's one with 36 dsp's and one with 13 dsp's on xp and both are rock solid systems that i can use in place of many pieces of expensive outboard., then i added the xite-1, so it's a lot of crazy power.
I think older creamware pci cards are good as studio complement or even for live musicians.
Yesterday i've seen my friend waiting 15 minutes for protools opening a project. but he said that it's the standard for a respectable studio

:)

it was much worse back in the days of real hardware and limited automation...

Theres no way ParseQ will have all the functionality developed into DAWS developed over the last 2 decades.

But we could expect an audio multitracker that sounds as good as a multitrack VDAT would, with a better automation resolution than MIDI can offer.

I expect to do some projects in ParseQ and some still in Cubase (where features aren't supported in ParseQ), until ParseQ grows over time to a point of being able to use it exclusively.

But during that period I wont be buying Cubase upgrades and intend a higher proportion of my studio budget going to S|C.

I'm hoping Parsec to be like AudioMulch, but adapted to DSPs or VST use, and half way between a modular synth and DAaW, but tight coupling of parameters and sequencing.

Thanks for your answers. I think the update isn't worth it's money though. When I buy the update, I won't be able to get 160€ for the card, if I sold it. That's absurd.
DSP-Hardware has no future. Native Applications are so fast these days, nobody needs additional DSPs. I like the sound of Modular, but it doesn't run in XTC Mode and the amount of voices with 3 DSPs are quite limited.
I got Scope 4 running with Win 7, but I get random reboots. Will use it with XP until hopefully somebody buys it.

Anyway, I read somewhere that Open Scope could be ported to Linux, will there really be copy protection then?

Well yeah, you need the dsps on the xite-1 to use the software.
So basically you want Sonic Core to give you something they have worked hard on for free so you can make a bit of money selling an old card?

Yeah you can't find cracks for DSP hardware based software.
Seems like too much aggrevation just to recover 160.
The native vs. DSP debate is a redundant waste of time as well.

I'm looking forward to what Open Scope brings.
