TripleDAT help!!
TripleDAT help!!
Hey...any TripleDAT users out there? Been using the program for years and love it! Since I do a ton of audio mixes and time is of the essence, I've had an auto ducking module designed for it and it works slicker than deer guts on a door handle!....However since it's on a Windows 98 OS, and I've switched over to XP it's no longer compatible. Anyone know what to do????
Re: TripleDAT help!!
not compatible..?...ok you basically answered my just posted question....

Re: TripleDAT help!!
that's right, it's win 98 only.
Re: TripleDAT help!!
keep an old PC around and run only Win98 and Triple... that's what I do, but I've been lucky that machine is at least 10 + years old.
Re: TripleDAT help!!
thats exactly what im doing...

Re: TripleDAT help!!
wow 3DAT - that brings back some memories. Was surprised to see ppl still using it. I started out with 3DAT back around 1997. Did lots of sessions with it until it just didn't make sense anymore. It's too bad Creamware abandoned it. I remember spending around $2K for that program (with the Osiris add-on). It was abandoned a year or two later. By today's standards it's a joke but back then, it was considered state-of-the-art.
Just curious - what are you guys using it for? Is it just a curiosity or are you doing meaningful work with it?
oh btw: 3DAT was used by a lot of big industry insiders. I remember the original Creamware user forum. I remember making contact with a few big name insiders - one of them was Frank Zappa's engineer (I can't remember his name now).

Re: TripleDAT help!!
Zappa's engineer would have been Mark Pinske (sp?) from Orlando, FL. He was the Creamware rep in the late 90's... that's when I first saw it demonstrated in Denver. Bought my original 3dat card and Osiris, Firewalkers, etc... from him and still use it on an old 1996 Dell running Win 98. He was director of engineering at Peavey, but has since moved onto Radian Audio. I have scope and 3DAT on two other machines with the luna and Pulsar boards. I don't think it's a joke compared to today's stuff at all. I think they were way ahead of their time, but didn't market 3Dat or any other versions of the recording software properly... at least not in north America.
Re: TripleDAT help!!
Isn't Trackcaster the modern equivalent of TripleDat (without the hardware specifics) ?

That's it! Mark Pinske! thx for reminding me. Marketing was never Creamware's strong point (at least here in the US). If 3DAT suffered from bad marketing, Pulsar/Scope was worse. I remember going to a Pulsar demonstration at Gand Music here in Chicago in the late 90's and the CW rep couldn't hardly keep his PC from crashing. He managed to show off a couple of synths but that was about it. I sat there in the audience scratching my head wondering what the hell this thing was supposed to be. ha ha.
What sold me on 3DAT was the fact it was an audio-only application. no MIDI. And it came bundled with it's own soundcard. It was a nice package. But trying to run a studio with it became a burden after a while. Because there was no further development going on, the rest of the industry had "leap-frogged" in terms of features and workflow enhancements. It just didn't make sense to keep using it anymore. I mean just getting WAV files out of 3DAT for transport or sharing was an exercise in frustration. I started doing some rap sessions here and 3DAT just wasn't cutting it anymore. It was just too difficult to accomplish loop based production with it. But that was my first DAW and I learned a lot from it. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for tripleDAT.

Re: TripleDAT help!!
it's really for broadcast applications more than music production, although there's certainly a crossover...
Re: TripleDAT help!!
After digging around I found the original Trackcaster newsletter link from last year :
http://www.sonic-core.net/newsletter/tc/tc-m1-en.html
'Look and feel like Cutmaster / TripleDAT' - maybe it could be a possible XP replacement.
It says the Demo is free anyway. I hope to check it out some time.
