Upgrading from Scope 5 to 5.1

Post by krizrox »

I'm giving some thought to finally making the jump from 5.0 to 5.1
I have a few questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer for me.

What sort of headache should I expect or is it a fairly painless procedure?
Is this a download only upgrade or is there an actual hard disc available? If you download is everything you need there?
Are there any issues with previous projects not working right with the latest upgrade? Anything that could bite me in the ass later on?
Do I have to un-install the previous version or does the new upgrade just install itself over the old version?

It's been so long since I've done anything with Scope - whats the procedure for upgrading with Sonic-core? What about all the keys and everything?

Anything you think is relevant is appreciated. Thanks!

Download only (I guess they could make a CD for you for a nominal charge, but it's not a huge download by modern standards).

Can't recall much difference between 5.0 and 5.1 - but I was Scope PCI 5.0 and went Scope XITE-1 5.1 so I had to do a clean install anyway. I would say it's worth doing a back-up and clean install to be on the safe side.

You'll need to get 5.1 keys. Email S|C if they don't come with your 5.1 purchase.

The only things that were a slight problem for me were a couple of licences got left out (proTone is the main one I can remember) and I had to get third party stuff like Dynatube, FAT and Tranient Designer licences taken across (if you're staying PCI you won't need to do this).

I started all-new projects with 5.1, but it's so similar to 5.0 I can't imagine there are any issues.

The only reason to upgrade would be if you go from a 32bit to a 64bit OS, and beware that there are things that doesnt work in 64 bit, STS samplers for example.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I use Scope XITE-1 5.1 as 32-bit so STS still work most of the time (but not always for some reason - a reload usually fixes it but is a pain).
