Problems with ADAT ports..

Post by the19thbear »

I have a pulsar2 card. The Adat ports dont work - all i get is garbled noise in and i get output, but with noise on top. - even without any input (it happens as soon as i connect the adat source module in scope). I tried changing the plate, but the problem is the same. otherwise the cards seems to work fine.
Any suggestions for could be wrong? I'm handy with a soldering iron... :)

the "with a different plate" is troublesome...

since you're handy with an iron, you can look for cracked solder with a magnifier and reflow anything suspicious.

double check your master/slave relationships, clean the ports with compressed air and try other toslink cables are my only other suggestions...

I just had a similar issue with a loose ADAT cable. Once reseated, it worked just fine.

I would check the cables are connected properly. Disconnect them, and reseat them. Make sure there is no dirt on the cables' optics either.

Check there are no ground loops. bad ground loops makes everything go strange. Yes, this is optical and there is no ground, but if either device is experiencing bad ground, this is equivalent to having a power supply issue.

Make sure there is no damage to the cable itself. Pinches or other damage can cause stray reflections inside the cable, and that can cause problems for the receiving device to lock on to the signal clock, and recover the data cleanly.

thanks alot people - i actually have 2 pulsar2's in my computer, and it is not the cables or the plates - since everything works fine swapped around.
Bummer. All my plugins are tied to the broken card, and i really want to only have 1 card in my computer (need the money for some other things, and i hardly ever reach the 6 dsp limit anyway)... keep up the suggestions!
and thanks again:)

you can look for swollen or leaking capacitors...

hmmm... i cant find the problem..
I was thinking of updating the other card to 5.1 (it now has 4.0) and at the same time transferring all the plugins to that card... but i'm going to wait till scope 6 comes out (whenever that is:)

thanks for the suggestions though!
